Looking for a nice area with 30 minutes drive to St Ives

Hi, my husband has recently taken a job in St Ives and we are looking for a nice affordable area within a 30 minute drive. We don't know the area at all and have 3 children who will be going into years 1, 4 & 6. We are looking for an area with good schools and good facilities close by. Any help would be appreciated. Many Thanks

Village or town. I'm basing my replies on schools....
There are some nice bits of St Ives itself...
I know around Huntingdon better (although I wouldn't live in Huntingdon).

Godmanchester is nice but the primaries are oversubscribed I think. More expensive houses.
Sawtry juniors is having problems although the infants is good. Sawtry infants is good and housing cheaper. Sawtry largish village. Sawtry village college (seniors - seems to ge improving rapidly)
Alconbury primary v good and some kids travel in (from other villages including Sawtry).
Alconbury Weald has a brand new primary with loads of spaces. Heard mixed things but v new. Head good but your children would probably be in mixed aged classes.
Brampton nice but you probably wouldn't get any spaces in the good primary.
Bourn primary good (near cambourne) but houses are expensive. Cambourne is probably cheaper though I'm not sure I would want to live there.
That's probably as much as I know.
