Hi all,

After having lived in Isleworth most of my life we have now decided to move to Surrey to find more space (hopefully!). I am not at all familiar with these towns and would really value input from those that have lived in or know the areas. Knowing that I am pretty much priced of places like Weybridge, Cobham and Walton and given that I would like to upsize to a larger semi or bungalow that we can convert to a house in a couple of years has resulted in the shortlist of Shepperton, Addlestone, New Haw, Ottershaw, West Byfleet, Chertsey. Things that are important to me are a not too difficult commute to London (don't mind a changeover), road traffic, good accessible schools, space, green scenery. I am happy forgoing the nicer areas if it makes larger properties more accessible within my budget.

Any advice on the above would be much appreciated!!

Hello! We moved to Chertsey from Richmond three years ago and personally really like it. It's certainly a change from where we were but going from renting a tiny flat to being able to buy our dream home with a garden has made it all worth while. We've had a little boy since being here and that has helped me meet lots of lovely friends who I now wouldn't be without. Everything you might need on a day to day basis (supermarkets, post office, drs, gym, vets, library, pizza express(!)) is within walking distance and there are lots of playgrounds and open spaces. Virginia Water is a short drive for lovely walks and London isn't too bad to get to via train (luckily I never had to commute every day but a few days a week was fine) and Weybridge and Virgina water offer better links with a short drive. Being in the middle of several major motorways makes it feel like everywhere is accessible. What I don't know a great deal about and am trying to find out about now is schools. If anyone has any thoughts / info / experience at all with local state (non-Catholic) primaries, please let me know!
