My name is Ilaria and I'm the communications assistant for Coin Street Community Builders, a not-for-profit social enterprise in SE1 and the designated Children’s Centre in the area. Our family and children's centre provides a high quality, varied and affordable programme of activities to families and children in the area.
I am writing this post because recently we received the exciting news that our Garden Project (for which we have been working very hard to raise funds over the past months) is one of only three local projects to have successfully bagged funding from the Tesco Bags of Help initiative, which see grants of up to £12,000 – all raised from the 5p bag levy – being awarded to environmental and greenspace projects. BUT exactly how much funding the family and children’s centre receives will be decided by shoppers voting for their favourite project at local branches of Tesco (list below) between Monday 31 October - 13 November.
The Garden Project's aim is to transform the nursery's existing outdoor space into a bio diverse green space for children using the centre. As well as ‘greening up’ the space and creating natural shade and protection from the wind, the project will introduce natural play elements including a ‘mud kitchen, a mini-greenhouse as well as a worm farm and habitats for insects.
