Advice on where to move to in Edinburgh with a baby :)

Can anyone recommend a nice, leafy, affordable area in Edinburgh where we could find a 2 bed flat with a garden (max. £230k), with a strong community feel, good schools, near parks/green spaces and nice area to bring up our baby? On a good cycle route would be a bonus, but not essential, we enjoy being able to get out and about on foot as much as possible too.

We're completely new to the area and renting in Fife currently, so it's tricky getting across to Edinburgh with a baby to check areas out.

We've mainly been looking at places on ESPC/Rightmove etc in Portobello so far, as we really like the slightly alternative, hip, family, community feel to it.

We've also been recommended Bruntsfield & Joppa (thinking they may be too expensive for us though?) and then Leith Links as an up and coming area - we don't know it at all, but have been told parts of Leith can be a bit shady, so not so sure whether it'd be such a good place for children? Stockbridge looks amazing, but I think it'd be totally out of our budget!!

I'd really appreciate any advice/top tips anyone has. We're also weighing up whether we'd be better looking for a house further out, so any advice on interesting areas a bit further afield where we might find something in our budget would be much appreciated.

ooh, bit of a wildcard this is slightly further out towards Newhaven but there's a regular bus from right outside the door and the sea is over the road. Lovely neighbours - one of my friend's lives in this square Grin

this is another cracker the development itself is on a very busy road but because it's an old bond warehouse the walls are thick and the flats overlooking the other side, iyswim are quiet.

further out towards Trinity

bust the budget? This is a lovely street and a cracking flat.

I lived in Joppa for 10 years and we moved 5 years ago when DS was 2. It has changed a lot. When we moved there it was all old people and crap pubs- now it's getting like Stockbridge on sea. It's a good community when your kids are wee. I lived in Leith for a long time as well and loved it- but as a childfree person. My baby group friend moved there and she just moaned about how Porty was better. Parking is always going to be a drag in Edinburgh unless you have a newbuild with driveway. I suspect Porty is still a good buy now prices only likely to go up. We moved out to a leafy part of Livingston and I absolutely love it. Far more community spirit here than anywhere I've lived.

Does anyone know Drum Terrace off of Easter Road? Have viewed a flat there but wanted to check the area is safe to get home at night, thanks

@Thirtyseven I'd start a new thread if I were you, and put the area or even the street in the thread title. You've popped your question at the end of a very old thread on a different topic.
