What age group op? There baby/toddler groups in huncote/whet/cosby. Football and dancing in whetstone, swimming and kids clubs in Narb itself. Cosby is another nice village but if Narb too quiet then it's a lot smaller still but the secondary school better than narb

Wishfulmakeupping · 05/06/2016 23:35

Move people I know desperate to move there regina not away myself included but its bloody expensive not surprising given its got the best primary and secondary catchments around though!

ReginaBlitz · 05/06/2016 23:43

I suppose we just have a different opinion on it then... I just think blaby, whetstone etc have gone a bit to pot.

justjuanmorebeer · 05/06/2016 23:45

George I think is in Lutterworth and boden not too far but sorry I don't know where. Realistically, in Leicester you will be driving everywhere unless you live anywhere but Clarendon Park. It is the only place with lots of stuff for families within walking distance of the city centre and train station.

Market Harborough is also a common place for families especially if someone needing to commute to London via train. I have never lived there but I have friends who love it and another who runs a boutique gallery there. There are transport links to Leicester but you'd need to drive it with kids I think really.

justjuanmorebeer · 05/06/2016 23:46

I mean unless you are in CP you will need to drive everywhere! It's late Hmm

Wishfulmakeupping · 05/06/2016 23:52

I think Clarendon park is nice when the kids are little if you want to be central there are some lovely groups round there I would reccomend op.
There are some lovely shops in market Harb the pubs are a bit ropey though which is a shame but the cafes seem nice enough

Cinnamonlily06 · 06/06/2016 10:14

the kids are nearly 3 and nearly 10
so one still at nursery the other one starting year 5
other places inside leicester?
one girl i know moved close to abbey park in the show factory apartments (but they don't have kids)
i did like the park but i did found the people a bit chav….

Knighton is an ok area it's near to oadby and great links from that road to the city centre..it is a very big Asian community will say that not that that's an issue, but schools etc are predominantly (sp) Asian well Indian.

ChoudeBruxelles · 06/06/2016 10:55

It's nice round there. But further out so may need bus into town but shops on queens road are nice

justjuanmorebeer · 06/06/2016 12:15

That area of Knighton is very nice. My Nan lives there. I think that would be overdale catchment.

Yes the shoe factory apartments are nice but they do not allow children.

If you want closer to Clarendon Park but still a semi you could look at Greenhill Rd, Landseer Rd, Bonnington Rd, Craighill Rd to name a few.

Local agents are house4homes, Barkers, Knightsbridge.

Wishfulmakeupping · 06/06/2016 14:16

That's a nice street op its a nice area round there.
A fab toddler group just around the corner but it has a long waiting list so if you do go for it then put your name down early!

Cinnamonlily06 · 06/06/2016 14:41

overdale is mostly asian?

also do you know the requirements for st thomas? we are christian and kids are baptised but we don't go to church ….
can get a letter of reference from a priest here to say he knows us …

OP posts:
ReginaBlitz · 06/06/2016 14:52

Overdale is yes. Not sure about st Thomas.

Waitingfordolly · 06/06/2016 15:08

Overdale is a nice mix of kids, not quite sure what point you're trying to make regina Hmm

ReginaBlitz · 06/06/2016 16:46

Oh fgs. The point I'm trying to make is that schools that are mainly Asian cater more for this, just like a c of e school cater more for Christians.

ChoudeBruxelles · 06/06/2016 17:17

The area is very mixed (like Leicester). They celebrate all types of religions and festivals, but then so do a lot of schools.

I actually find Clarendon park/ Knighton to be mixed middle class rather than predominately Asian.

Cinnamonlily06 · 06/06/2016 22:23

when i went to claredon it didnt look asian to me….

Worth noting that Joules HQ is in Market Harborough. They've just listed on London Stock Exch AIM market which suggests they are doing ok. East Midlands trains are good - I use them to commute south to London from where we live across the border from Leics in Northants and OH goes to Leics for work. So living near a train station and commuting into Leics or work or for leisure by train is an option. Buses are disappointing in the East Midlands by London standards (we moved up 2 years ago from London) and as everyone has said Leicester traffic during rush hour can be bad e.g in and out to Fosse Park from the centre. Secondary schools - the Market Harborough one seems a bit mediocre. Many kids go by train from Market Harborough to Bishop Stopford in Kettering which is in the Top 200 but a church school - you need to put in 2 years with 80% attendance to get in.

Sleeprocks · 06/06/2016 23:43

One addition - the one downside with the trains is that the last train from Leics going north or south is about 10pm which means you can't really do a night out in Leicester by train and get back so easily (although you could taxi back). The last train from London is also 2223ish on a Saturday and 2223 on a weekday. Not sure if this is just while they are electrifying the line which will speed up services and allow even longer trains.

Cinnamonlily06 · 07/06/2016 11:05

apart from claredon knighton any other part of leicester?
tx

justjuanmorebeer · 07/06/2016 12:15

If I didn't mind driving everywhere I'd happily live in Oadby or Old Aylestone. There are also really nice houses in the Westcotes area (west end LE3) but I couldn't tell you anything about the schooling.

Cinnamonlily06 · 07/06/2016 15:08

but like inside leicester town?
or only claredon is ok?

OP posts:
ChoudeBruxelles · 07/06/2016 16:00

Aylestone is in the city boundary but a few miles from the city centre. If you want to be able to walk you could look around western park. It's a nice area but sandwiched between two massive council estates.

Braunstone town is just over the county border but probably only 3 miles from city centre and close to motorway and fosse park
