went around yesterday and our favourite part was clarion park but mostly stoneygate going toward oadly too
narborough and endibly seems very rural to me …. i cant see the town centre ….
we loved abbey park and went to the space centre but abbey park people were quite rough…. shame as the park is really lovely …
talking about the town centre we didnt have the time to see much but it looks quite small (i know everything is small compared to london…:( )
I think the value for money is really really good compared to overpriced london house market

Yes the value for money is very good shhh don't tell everyone though.

Stoneygate/Claredon park best bet if you want to be close to city centre but in a 'naice' area plenty of nice shops/eateries and groups etc of you have little ones there's a couple of lovely baby/toddler groups in that area.

hellypad · 01/06/2016 20:11

We live in Groby, great schools from 4-18 plus 2 nurseries and 2 pre-schools, all located in the village. About 4 miles into the city lots of stuff for kids, brownies, scouts, football, dancing etc. Good parks and you can get a 4 bed detached for less thank £300k.

KnightonShiningArmour · 02/06/2016 22:52

Knighton is a fab place to live but I think that Overdale is oversubscribed. Perhaps give the council a call?

Cinnamonlily06 · 04/06/2016 18:53

Thank you !
We will be back looking tomorrow and next week end :)

wigstone?? yes or no?

OP posts:
KnightonShiningArmour · 05/06/2016 13:43

Wigston? Whereabouts? Some parts are a bit ropey.

Waitingfordolly · 05/06/2016 13:55

Plenty of Knighton / Stoneygate parents have kids at Oadby secondary schools, especially boys who are avoiding Lancaster Boys. The age ranges are changing at the moment so things might be different either way in the future. Clarendon Park is nice but lots of people have had problems with student noise so there are some roads better / worse than others. Knighton is quite friendly but there's not a lot there other than the park and the Cradock pub, so you'd probably find you needed the car / bus more than Clarendon Park.

Waitingfordolly · 05/06/2016 13:58

Oh and I'd say Wigston no, possibly unless you're at the Knighton end. Have you said your budget? I can 'the see as on app.

Wishfulmakeupping · 05/06/2016 14:17

I would say Knighton over Oadby/Wigston but The villages further out nicer still

justjuanmorebeer · 05/06/2016 15:10

I'd say no to Wigston but there is nothing wrong with it as such, it is just boring really. I think coming from London you will be used to more amenities on your doorstep. You can't walk to anywhere from Wigston.

I don't know anything about the Wigston primary schools but the secondaries don't have the best rep. There has been a recent merger of three schools though so it may change in future.

Cinnamonlily06 · 05/06/2016 15:41

We will be seeing houses next Saturday ... My partner would rather go for narborough area me Clarendon ... What do you think?

OP posts:
Wishfulmakeupping · 05/06/2016 15:54

Both nice me personally Narb but then I like villages- it's got a good community there's lots of nice little shops pubs etc you want the pastures catchment area in Narb though check the catchment map as the 'pastures' estate cover 2 school catchments.

Waitingfordolly · 05/06/2016 16:36

It really depends on what's important to you and who's going to be home more. Clarendon Park is walkable to the city centre (though not with smaller kids!) and is handy for everything that brings and the train down to London, Narborough is more of a trip to get anywhere though you have Fosse Park nearby for shopping, though that's a bit soulless IMO, and v close to M1. Good David Lloyd with an outdoor pool in Narborough too if you want a posh gym!

Cinnamonlily06 · 05/06/2016 20:54

We passed thru and didn't see much of it really but the houses looked nice and my partner is obsessed with having a garage 🙄
I'm more a city person ....
I didn't see the town center at all . Is public transport available from there ? Tx

OP posts:
KnightonShiningArmour · 05/06/2016 21:59

No to Narborough! Transport links are shite and takes ages to get to get in and out of town between 6-8am and 4-6pm.

How about Great Glen? It's a bit better than narborough and you can get to Market Harborough on the bus easily.

I like Clarendon Park but parking is a pain in the arse, but lots of great local shops and good transport links.

Cinnamonlily06 · 05/06/2016 22:32

blabby same as wheatstone?
i really prefer the town of leicester as i love going to parks and shops and so on … my partner would like a house with a garage to put his scooter and it seems around claredon there are only terraced properties
other areas in leicester to worth looking at?
thank you so much for you help Halo

OP posts:
Wishfulmakeupping · 05/06/2016 22:52

Whetstone is more expensive than blaby as the primary school is outstanding and the housing stock is generally bigger detached houses on quiet streets. Whetstone is nice but pricey.

ReginaBlitz · 05/06/2016 23:06

Not wigston it has got really bad there I was there for 16 years, oadby if you had to pick out of the two. We are in a lovely village about 3 miles from there. Stay away from braunstone, Beaumont leys, saffron lane, new parks, Eyres monsell..they are the roughest of the rough in Leicester. Clarendon park is ok but is a big student place and s bit close to town but that's for me personally. Someone mentioned whetstone, thats awful too a lot of trouble round there and a bit dismal. For decent schools you need to stick to villages.

justjuanmorebeer · 05/06/2016 23:13

It really depends on your budget. There are bigger houses in CP and also garages but depends on price.

You mentioned before that you are a designer hoping to find work. If this is in fashion and you are looking at next/george/boden then between those two go for Narborough. It takes ages to get to motorway/ fosse park area from here in rush hour so really adds to your commute.

Public transport in Leicester is generally not great in my opinion. So wherever you are the buses are comprable.

Wishfulmakeupping · 05/06/2016 23:17

regina are you confusing countesthorpe and whetstone there? Would agree with your avoid areas including wigston but hardly put whetstone the same as oadby/wigston much nicer

Cinnamonlily06 · 05/06/2016 23:26

thanks
yes i'm looking at Next for sure !
didnt know george and bodens offices where there too.
How is Narborough? As i said we passed and looked lovely but very countryside ….or did i miss something?
i mean kids activities and so on …as i don't want to drive all the time to one place to another (dance swimming and so on…)
will go and see houses in Groby
A lot of you have mentioned Market Harbour why? is that very nice? how about the commuting to leicester?

OP posts:
Wishfulmakeupping · 05/06/2016 23:30

I like narborough but I'd go for pastures catchment if I was moving there secondary school is ok but not outstanding. The village centre has shops, cafe, pubs l, Narb hall which is lovely and the train station. When I lived there I often caught the train to leic city as it was so quick- direct train to Bham from there too

ReginaBlitz · 05/06/2016 23:30

Wish yes I'm talking about whetstone! Have friends there that are desperate to move. Lots of trouble there. Market harborough is nice we are in that district about 7 miles from there, the surrounding villages are nice, they have a train station but buses etc into Leicester town take a while.
