Expat returning, and in urgent need of Secondary School Advice please

I am returning at the beginning of July and I have no idea where to start looking for schools for my son, who will be 12 in May.
I need as much advice as possible and personal opinions of which schools to avoid.

I am not in area, but have been researching plenty about local primaries and a bit about local secondaries, around the East Finchley area though.

Happy to pass on any info that may be useful - PM me if you want to.

I think, given that there is usually a high demand for places at any good secondary in London, it will depend on some extent to where you are moving back to and how close you are to the school you are considering.

I spoke to Barnet education officers last week, about general admissions stuff for primary mainly - they were very helpful. They deal with all admissions and waiting lists for primaries and secondaries in Barnet.
