Where should I go to furnish our St. Albans home?

Hello! I've just moved with my husband and three children to St. Albans from the states. We've moved only with a few suitcases, and we move into our flat tomorrow evening. We have absolutely nothing to furnish our flat, from furniture to kitchen utensil to toys and books, so I am looking for advice on where to find everything (affordably). Since we need so much so soon I am hoping to find as much furniture as I can used. My priority is our children's bedrooms so I am searching first for two single beds and a toddler bed, but I would love any advice on any of it. Where would you go to find used furniture? I know about gumtree and Freecycle, but is there a good charity shop with affordable prices? Where would you buy new mattresses? Dressers? Where would you advise me to stock up on kitchen utensils and plates and... Well, everything? At this point, so last minute, I am not concerned at all about style or design.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me, I am hoping to have a mega successful shopping day tomorrow. :)
