Vet charity brings the jungle to vintage railway

A jungle train complete with wild animals pulls out of Chinnor
station next Saturday (19 Sept) in an unusual charity fund-raiser.

The jungle experience with the Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway
has been organised by British charity Wildlife Vets International
(WVI), whose vets travel the world to help conservationists save
endangered species.

Before departure there will be animals and wildlife vets to meet,
face painting, lucky dip and other jungle fun. Animal encounters and
entertainment continues on the hour long train journey.

Expect a squirrel monkey, some baby alligators and lots of animal
fun, says Olivia Walter of WVI, whose working day is more often spent
organising projects involving Amur leopards in the Russian Far East,
tigers in Sumatra, wild dogs in Zimbabwe and turtles and terrapins in
the Seychelles.

Saturday's train trip is the latest project to raise fund for vital
work carried out by a small select group of special wildlife vets, she
explained, with adult tickets £7.50 and a child's ticket £13.50.

"We have just been able to help the new Seychelles turtle and
terrapin rehabilitation centre acquire the world's first wildlife
digital X-ray machine," said Olivia. "Our patron TV vet Steve Leonard
is just back from an annual journey to vaccinate domestic dogs in
Zimbabwe to stop disease spreading into the wild dog population

In two weeks time Olivia will herself be braving the jungle -
literally - on a fund-raising trek through Kerinci Seblat National
Park in Sumatra as part of WVI'S contribution to preserving the
island's dwindling tiger numbers.

The Chinnor & Princes Risborough Railway is a standard gauge railway
operating both steam and diesel hauled train services from Chinnor
station in Oxfordshire. It operates part of the old Great Western
Railway branch line which ran between Princes Risborough
(Buckinghamshire) and Watlington (Oxfordshire).
