Myton Hospice's fabulous team of volunteers helps us reach the £8 million required each year to offer our services, free of charge, to the people of Coventry and Warwickshire. If you would like to join the team, please contact [email protected] or 01926 838809 to find out more!

Opportunities available:

Events: Each exciting fundraising event relies on volunteers to fill some or all of the following roles: Registration, parking marshals, route marshals, selling merchandise, serving refreshments, putting up posters, forming cheer squads, and setting up and clearing down gazebos etc. Would you like to be on the contact list?

Our volunteers say:
We had a fantastic day and the early start/journey down was all the more worth it for seeing everyone taking part dressed up in costume! (Santa Dash).

I really enjoyed the day and everybody made me feel so welcome.

Ad Hoc Collections: We hold a variety of supermarket and festival collections throughout Coventry and Warwickshire - a great way to boost our profile amongst the local community, and a good source of income. This can take as little as a couple of hours or so, one or more times a year. Would you like to be on the contact list?

Collection tin co-ordinator: Our 1800 collection tins account for around £60,000 of our annual income. It involves monitoring collection tins in shops, pubs, hairdressers etc. in your area. You would be given a list of places for your approval, then you would be introduced to them by one of our Community Fundraisers. It generally entails visiting the places on your list every 3 months to see if their tin needs to be emptied or not, and returning the cash to us.

Myton's 20 charity shops, Ebay store and warehouse all rely on volunteer help. The success of any shop, whether charity or mainstream, is through excellent retail practises and good customer service. Our shops generate nearly £2 million so we can continue to offer our services, free of charge, to the people of Coventry and Warwickshire. So our retail volunteers are a highly valued part of the retail team. Your role could involve welcoming and assisting customers, ensuring all donors are thanked for their contribution, explaining the benefits of the Gift Aid scheme, sorting, steaming, pricing, displaying and rotating stock, as well as window dressing and operating the till. The Ebay store might involve photographing and wrapping items for sale. The warehouse needs general help sorting stock.

If you would like to volunteer, let me know, or feel free to contact the Myton shop of your choice and ask to speak to the manager. Click here for a list of our shops www.mytonhospice.org/about/findus/mytonshops/. You will be asked to complete our volunteer application form, obtain 2 references and be interviewed.

Our volunteers say:
I had some retail experience from a previous job, but I found working in a charity shop more varied and interesting. I learnt all aspects of the job, from sorting donations to working the till and making the volunteers feel at home. I also liked the fact I was helping a really worthwhile charity within my local area.

Volunteer Lottery Collectors: Some Myton lottery members prefer their payments to be collected rather than using direct debit. It entails knocking on doors every 5 weeks to pick up the payments. Volunteers are not canvassing or selling lottery subscriptions – just picking up payments from current members. Then they bank the money for us and complete the paperwork. A commission of up to15% is offered to our volunteer lottery collectors to cover expenses.

Our volunteers say:
I was delighted when the opportunity of becoming a Myton Hospice Volunteer Lottery Collector came up, as Myton Hospice is a local charity with a great reputation and it fits in with my work and other commitments.

If you are interested in volunteering with patients or in the hospice, such in the IPU, on reception, as a complementary therapist or a volunteer driver, then please complete our Volunteer Application Form which is near the top right of this page www.mytonhospice.org/join/volunteering/volunteering-hidden/coventry-IPU-vol.htm and email or post it to [email protected]. Jane will respond to you about these opportunities. You will find more details about Hospice volunteering opportunities on this page www.mytonhospice.org/join/volunteering.

ALSO:

This year's WALK FOR MYTON takes place on Sunday 17th May. Over the past two years hundreds of people of all ages have taken part in this event to support Myton at Home, which cares for patients in their own homes in Leamington, Warwick and Rugby. As with all of Myton's events, volunteers are the backbone, enabling the event to run smoothly and successfully on the day. Our regular volunteers know first-hand that we can't run these events without them. And we're always happy to welcome new volunteers to the team!

Once again we will have 3 routes (3, 6 and 12 miles) starting and ending at our Warwick Hospice, Myton Lane, Warwick CV34 6PX.

The volunteers needed include:

4 parking marshals from 8am to 10.30am
22 route marshals to help direct walkers at various points along the 3 routes, between about 8am and 2.45pm depending on location. Two locations are refreshment stops. If you would like to be placed at one of them please let me know.
1 back marker for the 3-mile or 6-mile route to follow the last walker and tell the marshalls to stand down, starting at 10.30am
1 or 2 hosts to direct people to registration etc. from 8am – 10.30am
8 on registration from 7.30am – 11am and 2 from 11am-3pm
4 to set up and run various games, from about 10am to about 2.30/3pm
1 to serve food on the BBQ from 1pm to 3pm
2 on the drinks station from 10.45am to 3pm

If you would like to volunteer, please let me know which role you would prefer.

THANK YOU AS ALWAYS FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
