hi, just wondering if anyone noticed that the council put a totally open (no doors, no barrier) public urinal/pissuar in the middle of the main street in Wimbledon?? it is absolutely disgusting, i find it shocking, i definitely don't want to and i don't want my children to look at guy's bum while he is doing his business, i can also imagine that the smell will be revolting, plus you can even get splashed or even worse your small child can get splashed when you don't know it is there and you are just passing by/waiting for the bus etc. how horrible? i think we should all complain and request to have it removed? after all, there are public toilets, where gentelmen can do their business in private?

Gosh, I was there only the other day and totally didn't spot that one! Where exactly is it, AcuAnia??? - near Doddle and HMV?

LocalEditorMerton · 09/05/2015 11:24

Where you out and about late into the evening, AcuAnia? Information I found seemed to suggest they are a pop-up late night 'conevenience' directed at late night revellers caught short.

Can anyone else shed any light?

LocalEditorMerton · 09/05/2015 12:04

AcuAnia according to @MertonAndrewLCF:

"@MumsnetMerton no only pops up weekend late night but doesn't stop people peeing in gardens of streets that lead out of town centre"

I guess it serves a public function and is limited to the times when it's least likely to cause offence to families but most likely to be of use to the late night revellers?

i'm sorry, but i still dont think it is a good idea to put these up right in the middle of the central part of the high street?!!
apparently they do appear in some more 'private' places, out of sight, but here just where you just have to walk by when going just about anywhere?
also, excuse me please, but even if someone goes out, can they not pee in the pub or just hold it and pee i at home?? i really find it outraging!
when i go out, i don't pee in anyone's garden!!! so i don't think any man has to!

yes, it is right opposite HMV, but on the tescos side of the road

and if a man has a problem with holding his pee - drink at home! don't drink when out. or use a grown up nappy ;)

I AM GOING TO COMPLAIN and i hope other people will do. even if i only go out at night once in a year. my (male) partner was shocked by it too, so i hope he will complain too. i do realize that it won't be used during the day much, but who will stop a drunk person to use it at any time of the day/night? and they are totally open!, no barrier whatsoever at any height. don't fancy seeing anyone using it, even on my one time in a year night out.

i have just been to town (without kids, yay) and there was no sign of the urinal, so yes, they are pop up (sigh of a slight relief)
i looked up online, and it says they pop up at 7 pm.. still too early for my liking, i used to go out for walks at this time of the day when the baby had colic. i used to come back from college at 8. my daughter comes back home from play dates at this time of the day. i come back with kids from visits at friend's/family sometimes much later than that. partner comes back from work around this time sometimes, and even he doesn't want to see it on his way.. very ugly view, believe me, even when it's 'unmanned'.. just go and have a look at the place in the evening and then make up your mind about it...

Honestly, I'd rather that than men pissing in random doorways. Seems like the lesser of two evils to me.

Lol. I think it's a brilliant idea. And if kids come up so close that they can get splashed, then the problem lies with the parents not the weeing person.

LocalEditorMerton · 23/11/2016 12:09

To this day (or maybe I should say 'evening') I've not spotted this pop-up urinal - and I've been on the look-out for it ever since first reading this post!
