Moving to Truro - advice on new areas to live

Hi, my husband begins his new job as estate manager in April. We've decided to rent in Truro until we get our bearings/suss out where we want to buy. As I don't drive yet I want to short walk to the City centre (20 mins max ideally) so I can get to baby groups. The following two rentals have come up and wondered if anybody could advise on area/walk to centre

We want to buy a new built house in Truro area and are considering three locations. I would appreciate an advice/opinion on these areas and schools:

1. Pen An Dre in Gloweth - nearest primary schools are: Truro Learning Academy, Threemilestone, Bosvigo

2. New development off Tregolls Road - nearest schools are: Tregolls School - an Academy, Archbishop Benson CofE

3. Parc Hendrawna in Perranporth - nearest schools are: Perranporth Community and Goonhavern

We'd like to be somewhere walking distance from a school, park/playgrounds, local store and ideally some restaurants/coffee shops - somewhere nice :-)

It will take a couple years for Tregolls to see the. Benefits of the cash investment IMO it is not a school I would choose.

Stay away from Bosvigo at all costs, still trading on its amazing reputation under a HT who was there 18 years. Now it has weak leadership, poor results and a curriculum so chaotic classroom focus has gone. Generally vey undisciplined and a very odd approach to managing poor behaviour. I speak from experience, not just mine, I am not the only parent to remove children from this school in the lady 12-18 months for broadly similar reasons.

In Truro I would look at archbishop and St Mary's only. Many of the surrounding village schools are really good: threemilestone is excellent with a good sporting focus and extra curricular activity, and Chacewater and Kea are well resourced community schools. Depending on where you end up in Truro these slightly out of town schools might be a good choice. Truro itself is oversubscribed.

The gloweth development is a bit out of town, but would be well placed for 3milestone school there is a good play group in the church there and also stay and play at the school.

Tregolls would firmly put you in catchment for that school. It is also longer to walk to town than you would think.

Perranporth - well you either love it or hate it. Dead in winter, teaming with tourists in summer. School and preschool v good but not much going on in the town.

Kenwyn is lovely but don't discount the opposite side of town, especially around Redannick park. Always good rentals and the park doesn't look like much but is a real local hub. Lots of young families and while you would be in Bosvigo catchment lots of families there use the other Truro schools and you are the right side of town to get out to kea and Chacewater schools.

The pottery preschool is excellent and this is the place for fantastic baby and toddler groups. In the baptist church and very friendly. The ladies that run both are lovely.

Lots going on in Truro for preschoolers, it really is a lovely place to raise a family. I thought that when mine were tiny, even more so now they are older.

We need to apply for school this year and are considering renting in the area of our choice while waiting for the new house to be built as we are currently in Bristol. My only concern is that all the good preschools will already be full for this September.

We'll drive to Truro in a couple of weeks and have a good look around all the areas and schools that were mentioned here.

I've been to Perranporth for the first time last Friday and instantly thought that I wouldn't want to live there. The idea of being walking distance from a beach is very appealing, though, and it's in the catchment area for the Goonhavern school that has very good reviews. St. Agnes would be my first choice outside Truro, but they've finished building there now :-(

We quickly popped in to the development last week but didn't have time to have a good look around the actual area. We like the look of their next phase on the same side as the show homes. I am new to the mumsnet but try and work out how to PM here :-)

Tregolls school is a fantastic with a nursery unit attached to the the school they have just had a really good ofsted report

Where are you thinking for preschool? As vodka says tregolls has a preschool attached and getting good reports... Don't discount pottery preschool... Not the most welcoming space but v experienced staff and the senior team are deserving if the recent outstanding report... The preschool team are incredible and dedicated and the place is not feeding only Bosvigo children start school all over the place from here.

The preschool at kea is v good and there is a newish place in Truro called the best which might be worth checking out.

Philip Martin or Kenwyn property services are good places to look for rentals.
