Local residents have had enough trouble of construction works on Mile End road

We received flyers saying that the construction works on this road will take 6 weeks. However, we were not expecting the road to become so much dangerous for families and their children. There are 3 primary schools and 1 secondary school around Mile End road. Every day we all cross this road minimum twice with fear that something might happen to children, because there they placed only 1 traffic light between Mile End and Bow road stations: ONLY ONE. Instead of walking for 10 minutes to the traffic light to cross the road with 2/3 sometimes 4 children a lot of parents wait for cars to lessen or stop to let them cross the road.
Who will take the responsibility if something happens to chose children. My husband was crossing the road with our sons (who were riding scooters) in the morning. When they started walking to the other side while cars were a little further away, my older one was scared to see a car approaching and decided to go back. Little one cross the road, but my husband had to go back to the middle of road to bring the older back. My younger saw his dad going back he started following him back too.

Can you imagine what was happening? They were crossing the road where there used to be a traffic light. Is it so difficult to place a temporary traffic light in there? I thought Mumsnet is the right place to share my concern about this situation.
