I'm very happy to welcome expert yoga practitioner Mary Schnorrenberg to our local talk area.

Mary first turned to yoga as a way of keeping her anchored, fit and sane while working in a manic marketing role. In 2011 she decided to leave that world behind and completed her 200 hour teacher training in Dahab, Egypt; her mother's homeland. The country had an intense pull on her so she relocated there shortly after, teaching her Vinyasa style classes to ex-pats, holidaymakers, Egyptian and Bedouin women, which she describes as an enlightening experience.

Returning to London in 2014 she completed an 80 hour Pregnancy teacher training with Yogamama Ltd, and is now certified to teach pre/post-natal classes. Mary is a firm proponent of the gentle benefits of pregnancy yoga, and she is looking to establish a new class around the Forest Hill and/or Lewisham areas. If this is something you might be interested in, please register your interest with Mary in the thread below or via private message.

Mary currently teaches a dynamic Vinyasa style class, beginning with grounding breathing techniques, flowing physical poses that build strength, tone and flexibility, then ending with a deep relaxation. Classes are always very mindful.

If there is anything you'd like to know about yoga, and pregnancy yoga in particular, do ask away, as Mary will be watching the thread to jump in and answer your questions. I hope you find it useful!

Regards,

Melanie

Hi! I haven't done yoga for years. Did a little bit about 15 years ago. Have had 2 kids since then. I'm wondering what is the best way to start again given that I am now totally unfit! Also I get out of breath easily, is yoga going to help me improve my aerobic health or does it have to be the Mac hit stuff for that?
Thanks!

Stepatatime · 06/02/2015 01:13

Sorry, mad hot stuff...not Mac hit stuff ??

Hi Step,

Great to hear from you, sorry for slow reply, been mad busy..
Well yoga in its purest form is all about breathing, conscious deep breathing to begin, which is a great place to start if you're unfit and need your aerobic health to improve.

While I see some benefits of Hot yoga, I would not advise you to jump straight into this type, esp if you have not practiced for 15 years. I would strongly recommend trying either Iyenger, Yin, Hatha or even a Vinyasa style as they are a lot slower.

I teach Vinyasa classes on a Sunday in Forest hill, I always adapt the classes to beginners, regulars and those that want to go deeper. Yoga's your own personal journey into yourself, so I'm not about pushing and pulling you into pretzel pose! You go at your own pace, breathing and moving..
If you want to try a class, let me know and I would be happy to discuss your goals afterwards..
First class free, chat soon!

Hi Mary,

Can you let me know if you hold pregnancy yoga around Lewisham (hopefully HG)?
