You are invited to participate in a market survey conducted as part of a research dissertation prepared under the supervision of the School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences, City University London, in partial fulfilment for the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Energy, Environmental Technology & Economics.
Climate change and resource depletion are amongst the most crucial problems of our time. Our homes contribute a large proportion of the UK's overall carbon emissions.
We have been already warned about the potential blackouts in the near future and fuel poverty will continue to grow. Using energy efficiently is an essential part of lowering carbon emissions as well as maintaining the energy security of the nation.
So far, a major focus has been on changing the behaviour of households: encouraging them to insulate their homes, buy more energy efficient appliances, switch off lights and equipments more frequently. Although many people are concerned about the environment, education does not always translate into taking practical steps to reduce domestic energy consumption.
There are evidences that people are more concerned about energy usage when on prepayment method.
The goal of this survey is to learn about the relationship between the consumer behaviour and prepayment method, as that may give us better understanding of human behaviour towards energy saving.
If this and other future researches will conclude that the impact of prepayment method is considerable in energy conservation, the way that energy market works will be challenged by the findings.
