commute to Cheltenham from Stroud - should I discount anywhere south?

Hello - we will probably be moving to Stroud some time next year and my dh will be working in Cheltenham. I really like the areas around Nailsworth, Box etc but he thinks it's stupid to live south of Stroud as it will add lots of journey time to his commute as will have to pass through centre of Stroud in rush hour. Is this true? I also like slad, edge and all those bits which are much nearer to Cheltenham so happy to adapt my plans if it really isn't practical but didn't want to discount somewhere without sounding it out with you lot first!! Thanks.

Painswick is a smaller alternative to nailsworth to try...or perhaps Bisley?

Thanks - I liked Painswick and will take a look at Bisley - do you reckon it would be silly to do the commute from Nailsworth then?!

What part of chelt will he be heading to as that will affect which route you'd take and how low...

No, not silly to commute for Nailsworth/Box.

My DH commutes to Gloucester along the A46 from south of Stroud (on the Common, not too far from Box). He does leave quite early though so is probably through the centre of Stroud by 7.45am. It's probably a lot worse if you didn't leave the area until after 8am. Would your DH be going on the A46 or M5?

Having said that, I personally wouldn't like to do it, but he is used to driving quite a way to work every day and has never lived nearer than about 30 mins drive away from his work. Me, I like a 5 minute or so commute.
