Areas to buy a house in for Altrincham grammer schools

Mums, which areas would you recommend for us to be eligible for unpaid grammer schools later on? Altrincham Grammer would be our preference.
Would Lymm be a good area to buy in a property?
We live in Heaton sersey at the moment, good schols and an outstanding secondary (Priestnall), but wouldn;t mind moving to an area that may be better for the future.
Any help would be appreciated. Thankyou.

Hi there - we're just going to move this thread to a more appropriate area for you.

Why NewKate as these are the Cheshire pages? Anyway.....

It is extremely competative to get into Alty Grammar if you are in catchment, let alone out of it, children try from Knutsford, Macclesfield, parts of Manchester and further afield. The bar is set extremely high as the school is one of the best grammar schools in the UK. A friends son just A'd all his sciences, maths and futher maths A levels and is going to uni to study to be a doctor. So if your child is that way inclined I'd say go for it but have a pretty solid back up plan that you are very happy with because more often than not oversubscription means it is very hard to get in. An outstanding secondary school is an excellent back up plan!

Have a look at the admissions criteria on the website. The official catchment area is an 8 mile radius around the school, but places are allocated on a distance basis for everyone that achieves the pass mark. Locally, everyone says they've only gone out as far as 4 or 5 miles in the past few years before all the places have been filled. If you really want to move, I'd try to move certainly within 5 miles.

I would stay in heaton Mersey personally. Lymm is miles out and you would end up ferrying DC everywhere. I would also read the recent thread on Trafford Grammar over on primary ed
