... with cake? Cake

After a lovely meet-up in July and quite a few people saying they'd like to come another time, it seems time to arrange that other time.

How does Thursday 18th September sound to anyone?

Hey there, just joined :) is it too early to express my interest in joining a future meetup? :)

LocalEditorNottingham · 04/11/2014 10:21

Hi Failedspinster, welcome and not too early at all Smile

We thought we'd try to come up with something before Christmas - maybe an evening outing - cinema perhaps, could eat beforehand, or just eat and drink, or something else entirely!

I should say that this isn't an established group, so no-one will feel like 'the new person'. It's very much the early stages of arranging meet-ups to discover if a group establishes, or different people want to drop by when they can, or for different things. All fine (so long as Cake is an option, I feel!). Grin

Damn, I've missed another one! I'll look out for the Christmas meet-up. :)

Failedspinster · 04/11/2014 13:02

Sounds great! I'll look forward to it :)

Lizflower32 · 08/04/2015 03:48

Hi I'm new on here. Any meet ups currently planned I would love to join? Mum to a 4 year old and a 2 year old x

LocalEditorNottingham · 08/04/2015 08:06

Hi Lizflower32,

Welcome Smile

There's nothing planned at the moment but I was just thinking we should try to sort out a meet-up for late April / May.

Is daytime or evening better for you (and anyone else)?

OP posts:
Lizflower32 · 08/04/2015 17:25

Hi, I forgot to mention I have two boys and live in the Bramcote/ Wollaton area but often go to Beeston/ Chilwell. Day time is better for me but could do evenings too. X

LadyMaryLikesCake · 15/04/2015 19:26

Hello, y'all!

A meet up would be wonderful. How about one where children are welcome, and one for without so we can drink wine? I can do mid May? Thursdays are usually good if you're all free (don't want to OD the question mark).

LocalEditorNottingham · 19/04/2015 21:13

Thursdays are generally good for me - all sounds like a good plan Smile

QueenOfNottingham · 19/04/2015 21:29

I want to try and come! I have anxiety so may well freak and wimp out but I want to try anyway. No, I need to try.

LadyMaryLikesCake · 22/04/2015 20:27

Hi QueenofNottingham Smile You'll be very welcome. I'm happy to meet you for a glass of wine/coffee first? It can be a bit daunting if lots of people turn up and you don't know anyone, so this way you'll know me if you do decide to come to the meet up. Please do send me a PM if you think that this will help.

LocalEditorNottingham · 25/04/2015 09:07

Hi all,

Shall we start to think about dates and venues?

Are we starting with a 'daytime with pre-school children' meet-up? So somewhere they'll be happily occupied while we chat? There are a few options - soft play, drop in activities - I'll come up with some suggestions in and around town, as we'll be coming in from different neighbourhoods.

Anyone have any favourites?

Love Delilah's near the Lace Market but it's not really fun for little people Sad Any child friendly places that you know of?

Tandia · 25/04/2015 21:10

I could be up for a Thursday meet up with kids if one is happening. I'm based north of nottingham but can travel. I have a 3 year old who will be in tow - will others have kids a similar age?

PS I've never done a mumsnet meet up before so I don't know how these things usually work!

MrsBungle · 25/04/2015 21:16

I'd like to try and make a meet-up. :)

MrsBungle · 25/04/2015 21:17

Tandia- my ds is 3 in a couple of weeks.

LadyMaryLikesCake · 25/04/2015 21:31

Oh, please do bring them Smile I'd imagine 3 year olds would want to run around. How about something outside, the Arboretum? Then they can run around. If we all meet in one place at one time, like the bandstand at 1pm or something?

Tandia · 25/04/2015 21:36

Sounds great :-). I could do 7 or 14 May, or after half term?

LadyMaryLikesCake · 25/04/2015 21:39

I can't do until after half term Sad Pretty busy here.

LocalEditorNottingham · 25/04/2015 22:44

The Arboretum is a great idea for a sunny day (easy to get to on the tram too). I took 3yo dd there recently with a picnic and she did indeed do a lot of running around (and playing hide & seek and making daisy chains). It was lovely Smile

For a rainy day, it depends on whether we want somewhere nice to meet for drinks and cake that accommodates children, or, somewhere entertaining for children, that does drinks and cake.

For the former, the cafe at Nottingham Contemporary is pretty good. Spacious, accessible and usually quiet in the morning. They do drop-in children's activities at weekends and holidays only.

For the latter, Stonebridge City Farm is a thought, not quite central but not far out. For soft play, Eden is lovely and easy to get to but not really central.

Agree that Delilah's is lovely and great with highchair-bound babes, or older children but not for the 'not sitting still, possibly running or climbing' phase (so dd!) Grin

I wouldn't want to let a small person lose in a deli, I'm not that brave Grin

The arboretum is lovely, lots of ducks and birds too. A little picnic and a football would do it.

HappyKite · 30/04/2015 10:21

Hi
If there is an evening meet up, I would be interested. My DC are all school age and I work full time, so day times are out for me, I'm afraid.

LocalEditorNottingham · 30/04/2015 11:39

Shall we get a date set for the 'daytime with children' one, then think about an evening one to follow? Smile

I'm usually free on Thursdays. Do you want to suggest possible dates LadyMaryLikesCake as you sound pretty busy?

Then we can decide on the venue and focus on Cake

LocalEditorNottingham · 10/05/2015 08:35

Hi All,

Sorry for the delay with this. I've heard from LadyMaryLikesCake that she's not able to help arrange this now, so, shall we get on and set a date?

Sticking with Thursdays in June works for me, is it ok for others? If so, how about the 11th, 18th or 25th?

I like the idea of a picnic in the Arboretum on a sunny day. I'll give a bit more thought to rainy day options. Nottingham Contemporary is a good fall back - and, like the Arboretum, accessible by tram - just not all that exciting for children on a week day. Good Cake or lunch options though!

Hope to get something sorted out and meet you soon Smile

18 June is one of my kids school sports day and I don't know the timings, so that might not work, but I could do either of the other dates.
