Following the call in 2012 from England's chief medical officer for free vitamins to be given to all children under the age of 5, the Kirklees free vitamin scheme has gone from strength to strength, with over 3,000 new referrals in the first 6 months of 2014.
Kirklees Public Health is all too aware of the importance of good nutrition and has been providing free vitamins for children between the ages of 6 months and 4 years since 2009. The offer of free vitamins also extends to all pregnant women and new mums with babies under 12 months.
This is not linked to benefits and every family who lives in Kirklees can access the scheme.
Kirklees residents can call at any local children’s centre for more information on the scheme or can speak with their doctor, pharmacist, midwife or health visitor for a referral. A full list of all local referral and distribution points is available by calling Yorkshire Children’s Centre on 01484 415465 or emailing [email protected].
