The Moshi Monsters splash down at The National SEA LIFE Centre in Birmingham this summer - and you can win a family pass to join them along with some extra Moshi prizes!

As well as a family pass, each winner will also receive a full set of series 10 Moshi Monsters figures and a Moshi Monsters Gumball Machine which holds over 120 collectible figures, including one exclusive Moshling, courtesy of www.vividtoysandgames.co.uk.

All you have to do is give your answer to the following question, in the thread below:

What's your top tip for a happy day out in Birmingham with the kids?

Answers in by 9am Friday July 25 please.

Katsuma, Poppet and Monstro City's number one Moshling conservationist, Buster Bumblechops, splash down at the centre this summer holiday and are on a mission to save our amazing marine creatures.

Join in the hunt and search the tanks to find missing marine Moshlings hiding at the underwater attraction in Birmingham. If you’re successful you will unlock Lubber the Whimsical Whale, a brand new Moshling exclusive to SEA LIFE and yours to keep the next time you visit moshimonsters.com.

Visitors also get the chance to swap Moshling collectable figures for favourites and rarities in the Moshling Swap Zone!

The National SEA LIFE Centre Birmingham transports visitors to an amazing underwater world, where they get to see incredible sea life from all over the planet, from the coast of Britain and the chilly Antarctic, to the tropical waters of the Caribbean.

The aquarium is home to over 2,000 creatures, including the UK’s only hammerhead sharks, a colony of cheeky Gentoo penguins, a rescued Giant Green Sea Turtle and a trio of Asian Short Clawed Otters.

The Moshi Monsters will be in residence at the National SEA LIFE Centre Birmingham from Saturday 19th July to Sunday 31st August.

For further information or to pre-book tickets online before your visit please go to www.SEALIFE.co.uk/birmingham/. Reduced prices are available for tickets booked in advance.

Make a day of any outing during the holidays. Take the train, bring a picnic, and take time to enjoy the cityscape. We love changing the pace after the rush rush rush of the last frantic weeks of term.

My very Birmingham specific recommendations are:

  • If you're heading out of the city centre up Broad St to attractions such as the Sealife Centre then take the buses that leave very regularly from outside the Cathedral on Colmore row as it is a long walk for little legs.
  • Nice child friendly cafes can be found in the Picadilly Arcade, at the top of New St, and Urban Coffee down Church Street. These tend to be less packed than any cafes near the main shopping area.
  • If you are around Broad St/Sea Life Centre, have a look at the canals while you're there, usually quite a lot of barges for children to spot.

-The children's section of the new library is a bit disappointing as its in the basement and a bit dark, but the glass lift and the roof garden on floor (I think!) 7 is well worth a visit with kids. There is also a viewing area on floor 9 - great views of Brum.

  • Check the Birmingham Museum website they often have things on in the Learning Zone for children which are fun and Interactive (and cheap!).
  • There is a large Green space by Birmingham Met College/Think Tank which is pretty much the only large place for little ones to really run around in the city centre.
  • Definitely leave the car at home, far easier to use the mostly excellent public transport.

Depending on ages, call in at the Lapworth Museum at the University of Birmingham (a short stroll from University Station). It's free. There's an amazing Albertosaur (like a small T-Rex) skull - and a T-Rex tooth, plus loads of interesting fossils and minerals. Also, you can picnic on the lawns at the foot of the University's huge clock-tower (and sometimes spy one or two of the peregrine falcons that live on campus).

If you can, go in on the train, saves the hassle of parking. Pay a visit to the Museum and art gallery, one of our favorite places. Then take a stroll along the canals around Brindley Place and the go and have a look at the new library. We've done exactly this a couple of times already this year and there wasn't one tantrum or shout of "I'm bored!" and a great time was had by everyone!

A trip to Cadburys world is an wonderful experience...my top tip is to make sure the kids (and the big kids!) are tanked up on a hearty breakfast before going as the chocolate consumed throughout the day will ruin any evening meal plans!

benandalfiesmum · 15/07/2014 15:12

My top tip would be to make the most of having time to spend as a family, value every second as time is precious and our children grow up so fast.
Forget about the every day hustle and bustle of family life and dedicate some time to remembering how to have fun!
It doesn't have to cost a fortune to have fun or to make memories.
A water fight in the garden, if the weathers bad- close the curtains and turn the living room into a cinema with juice and popcorn! A nature walk in the local park, chalk pictures on the garden patio are all a favourite of ours.
Whatever you choose..Just enjoy it.. You only get this time once.

I make a treaure map of things that can be found in the Birminham museum (I scope out things beforehand to put on the map) then my son has to find them! Then he likes to make up weird history about the objects. Too much fun! Afterwards we have juice and cake in the lovely Edwardian Tea Room.

Going somewhere that appeals to all; children and adults, like the thinktank science museum, which is interesting and fun for all ages, educational and a great day out

Lots of lovely ideas!

Keep the entries coming - your tip doesn't have to be more than a few words Smile
