where to find a very part time nanny/sitter for after school?

DC3 starts school in Sept so our fab part time nanny is moving on (and having her own child). I will need to find after school care for 2 days a week and, although there is an after school club, I am hoping to find someone to do the school pick up and look after them at home. DD1 will be almost 11 and doesn't want to do after school club and it's nice for them to have the flexibility of having friends round etc.

I have this idea that I might be able to get a student or something for 2x3hrs a week. After all, they'll not need baby level childcare, just baby sitting really.

Has anyone here ever done similar? And how did you find your student / baby sitter?

Thanks!

I would have thought that a local advert in shop /and or asking around would be as good anythink - also possibly gumtree although you might have to do a lot of sifting - also maybe now putting up an ad now -before they go on holiday in anglia ruskin university campus might be worth it.
There might be some other ideas on the main mumsnet site on the childminders/nannies section.

Do you know any local teenagers? I have two or three older siblings of kids we know who often come and do this sort of thing for me. Ask all your neighbours/friends with older siblings!

There is a 21? yr old up the road, just back from Uni. I was going to ask if she had any friends who might be interested, graduate employment bring what it is... Sadly, the local PO is now a portacabin and doesn't have ads any more.

Is there a local (i.e. village or small area of Cambridge) facebook group?

Ooo another good idea. There is one for a neighbouring village. Thanks for all the ideas. please keep them coming!

How about putting an advert up in a soft play centre close to you? Often nannies/baby sitters go there?

We found one. Used the care.co.uk site. Seemed to work well :-)

Thanks for the ideas. Have tried gumtree, got 3 replies which have turned into 2 no shows and 1 not interested. Will try some of these other suggestions. I hadn't thought of local soft play for adverts.

Londo did you look for/find your nanny before the summer holidays? Or just before school in Sept?
