Hi I'm also a single mum maybe moving here soon, been offered a council house swap to St Brudeaux but I got concerned about accepting it as a couple of people said the area was rough? I have 2 dc - a preshcooler and a baby and I don't drive so relying on public transport. What do you think?

Sorry if this offends anyone, but St Budeaux is most definitely one of the rougher areas. I think it's ok for public transport but it's not an area I would consider. Sorry.

Thanks Kat for your reply. It's a shame as it's a lovely house and I would like to live in Plymouth. How rough is rough? I am from Glasgow originally so I know rough IYKWIM!

I'd go for it then! On a scale of area roughness I'd say it's about a 7/8 and there are rougher parts of Plymouth (North Prospect, Honicknowle). Some of St. Budeaux is nice than other parts. Which road?

Its nice in St Budeaux really, ok there are bits a bit rough but depending on which bit you are offered there are lots of amenities, lovely primary schools, sure start, shops etc etc. Its got lovely veiws from some bits too. Overall Plymouth is low on crime and violence and is a quiet city compared to most, especially glasgow. Smile come and see.

Oh it's tricky. St Budueax has a poor reputation, but, not as bad as others, and actually, lots of St Budueax is lovely and as with most places, a small part of it affects the rest of it. It is not, for example, West Park, which I would say avoid like the plague. But it is close to Barne Barton which is not a great area at all so I would be asking where in St Budueax it is.

I work in an environment which works with people from some of the roughest areas in Plymouth and spend time in this area with clients. Generally, St Budeaux is really not that bad, the houses are lovely the schools are actually reasonable, good community centres and children's centres and is actually has a strong close-knit community, nice shops, is having quite a lot of money invested in it. It is close to A38 for access to outside of Plymouth, to the brigade into cornwall, and bus routes into town but would be best if you have a car.

If you PM me the street, I will tell you if I think it is too close to say Barne Barton, perhaps that is an area you would prefer to avoid.
