Good public transport links (no train station tho, nearest is either Menston - Bradford side or Huby - Harrogate side). Can't help with what the schools are like - DD is 5 months so not thought about it yet.... Her older cousins are all at secondary school.

I don't think (happy to be corrected...) there's a 'bad' place to live in Otley. I love it here :) Good luck for the move!

The Weston area north of the river has less desirable bits.

All the schools are ok but the Whartons recent ofsted was less favourable while Ashfield has improved (used to be a less popular choice). Westgate is great and has a nursery but you would need to be very close as lots of places go to siblings.

Menston is the nearest train station going to leeds, bradford, ilkley. There are regular buses to link to the trains.

Oh, a big welcome to our part of the world. You and your family are coming to a truly lovely area and I wish you much happiness. We live in Ilkley which is the next town along the Wharfe valley, and we've lived here for 27 years now. Truly lovely.

Hi, we have lived in Otley for 14 years and have three children moving through the school system and a baby on the way! Westgate is definitely the best primary - in my opinion. There is no where in Otley which is truly dodgy really, but the Weston estate is less desirable. We lived in a smaller stone built cottage when we moved here and as we've needed more space have moved to a not so tasteful, but highly practical spacious 1950's semi closer to the golf course (on way to Menston). Its a great place to bring up kids safely and has fab links to Harrogate and Leeds. Of course has many pubs too (The Fleece is nice) and a North bar - very important if you like a nice G&T! Bus service X84 runs frequently in & out of Leeds and Menston train station is only a few mins away. We have a great local community and there is always stuff happening and good coffee if you know where to look!
