Moving to Tonbridge from London, looking to meet other mums

Adreena · 20/03/2014 18:14

I'm a 35 year old mum to a 6mo DS. Leaving SE London for Tonbridge in the hope of finding a less hectic life and more affordable housing!

I won't know anyone in the area and am likely to be SAHM or possibly commuting to london a few days a week to my media job (if they accept my p/t request!). So I'll be looking to fill my days with baby groups etc and I'd like to meet some friends to chat and share a coffee

Anyone out there in tonbridge or nearby looking for friends or happy to share a coffee with a newcomer? Or any ex Londoners making the same move?

I too am making the move to Tonbridge soon, from Orpington. I don't know the area that well having only been there when house hunting. I am a SAHM with three year old DS and a one year old DD. Looking forward to it but also a little nervous too!

Alias78 · 02/04/2014 10:06

Hi Lynnie. Have you bought somewhere or will you be renting in tonbridge? We've taken a rental with a view to buying if we like it. It is nerve wracking moving to a totally new area!

lynniegooner · 03/04/2014 14:51

We are buying.....moving date next Friday! Slight panic as I can't see how we are going to get everything packed in time but also excited about finally goingSmile

Magsisgoinghome · 17/04/2014 15:19

We are also moving to Tonbridge from Orpington Lynne. Just found a great place to rent (paying more that we bargained for - Tonbridge in reality not less expensive than TW!)
Really scared as well, especially as I have a 9-year old to get into a school.

AnnemarieRoberts1980 · 23/04/2014 22:11

We also moved to Tonbridge about 1 month ago from Tooting in SW London. I have a 5 month old baby girl and going to back full time to work in London in about 2 weeks time....Not great as I haven't had much time to make friends and now I won't be around during the week... Anyone else in a similar position? Any suggestions?

Magsisgoinghome · 24/04/2014 12:11

Hi Annemarie, I have pm'd you :)

lynniegooner · 25/04/2014 09:40

I had my hair cut at Rush in the High Street - they are offering 20% discount for new customers and you can book online to choose your appointment. Was really nice in there so I would recommend them to any other Tonbridge newbies!!

Kirsty2478 · 25/04/2014 09:54

Hi I also recently moved to Tonbridge, making such a big move is scary! Has anybody found any clubs for the little ones? I have a 3 year old girl.

lynniegooner · 25/04/2014 11:07

I also have a three year old but am looking at nurseries and pre-schools for him (taking advantage of the free 15 hours he is now entitled to!)

Kirsty2478 · 25/04/2014 19:21

Have you tried Happy Faces pre school? My little one goes there and I'm sure they still have a few places.

lynniegooner · 28/04/2014 18:11

That would be about a 20 minute walk for me as I don't drive...but if we can't get him in anywhere else I may have to get my walking boots on! There are open evenings this week at Tonbridge Day Nursery and so will have a snoop around there and see what it's like

Hi! We have just moved to Tonbridge too.....6 weeks ago! Have relocated from Buckinghamshire so I don't know anyone in Tonbridge yet and would love to start meeting some local mums. My son is nearly 3 and my daughter 14 months and I work part time. I'm desperate to start learning of any activity groups for the little ones if any of you have any suggestions?!

lynniegooner · 19/08/2014 12:18

Welcome to Tonbridge! I managed to get my three year old into a preschool from September but am on the look out for something to take my two year old to - something free where she can burn off some energy!

aliwally · 28/08/2014 09:21

Hi all - we also moved from SE London (Forest Hill) back in June and we're settling into Tonbridge slowly. Have a 3 yr old son at Oaklands nursery and work 4 days a week in London. Am at home with him on Fridays and would love to meet more mums and babies/toddlers in the area. I hear the Angel Centre has baby things going on and there is the wonderful Tonbridge park with a superb coffee man/cart! Is anyone around on Friday 12th September for a meet-up? if there are any takers I'm happy to organise something.

Eagle99 · 03/09/2014 22:32

Hi Lynniegooner. Have you heard about pre school bounce? I've heard some good things about it from mums I've chatted to in the park, they have an afternoon drop in session on a Monday 1330-1530. Id you're free would you like to meet there on 8th or 15th?

Hi Aliwally. Unfortunately I work every Friday. I see you've moved from Forest Hill......I don't suppose you were the person I spoke to at Sam and Matt's party back in Jan in forest Hill?? We both spoke about moving to Tonbridge hopefully in the summer! Maybe we could meet up one Sat or Sun afternoon for a play date?
Hope you're all settling in to TOnbridge well!

lynniegooner · 07/09/2014 23:36

Eagle99 where is the bounce thing? I don't drive so have to go anywhere on foot! I can make the 15th if you still want to meet up?

lynniegooner · 07/09/2014 23:39

aliwally I'm free on the 12th if you are still arranging a meet up. I've not been to the Angel Centre yet so would be good to have a look around and see what's going on in there!

Eagle99 · 09/09/2014 20:18

Hi Lynnie. Unfortunately something has come up and I can't make 15th now, are you free Monday 22nd instead? Anyone else free to check out Pre School Bounce....Kirsty2478, Adreena ? I've heard some good things about it, its based in the Angel Centre which I've yet to visit, details below

Seeing as we're all in a similar situation it would be nice to start meeting some local peeps!

Adreena · 11/09/2014 14:27

Hi. Sorry I haven't been back to this thread. I had problems with my log in for ages but seems sorted now.

Little update - we now live in south tonbridge, renting, but in the (slow) process of buying a house here. We're settled, enjoying it but i would still like to meet some mums for park meet-ups etc. I'm working Tuesdays and some other ad hoc days but I'm still around in the week quite a lot. Would definitely be interested in pre school bounce or a trip to the park :)

Hi. Good to hear from you Adreena. Do you fancy meeting at pre school bounce at the Angel centre next Monday 22nd? It says its a drop in session 1330-1530. I think your son is a few months younger than my daughter so I'm presuming he possibly could be napping after lunch? My daughter will either nap late morning or after lunch too but I think I'll pop her in the pram if napping after lunch as my son will be eager to get there! Come whenever suits you though. My son has quite long (ish) blond curly hair, you can't miss him! I'm fair too but not as curly!
I see you've moved from SE London. We lived all over SW and SE London between us for nearly 15 years until we moved to Bucks 5 yrs ago. I love it here being so close to London again tho, really missed it!

Anyone else free to meet up on Monday? Would be good to meet you!

lynniegooner · 19/09/2014 11:42

Can't make this Monday but would be able to go the following Monday afternoon session (29th).......unless if course you go and then report back that it's not very good!

Eagle99 · 29/09/2014 10:37

Hi sorry for the slow reply. We'll definitely be at pre school bounce this afternoon if you're free? We went last week and it was fab

Wilsonberry2010 · 07/10/2014 17:45

Hi ladies. I'm also new to Tonbridge - we moved here from London and I have a 4 month yr old. I'm also really keen to meet like minded mums who are learning to adapt to a life without London! Let me know if your plans for the park / coffee work out. Finch house is always a good spot for a cuppa. :)

lynniegooner · 10/10/2014 17:02

Hope to finally manage to get to the bounce thing at the Angel Centre this Monday.....if it's not rainingSmile
