Staying at a Glasgow primary school when you move out of Glasgow catchment

Hi, looking ahead we are likely to move from Glasgow to East Ren when my oldest reaches secondary age ie he will go to A Glasgow primary school and then an East Ren secondary. The little one will however still be in primary school by the time the oldest goes to secondary. Will he still be able to stay on at the same Glasgow primary school even if we move to east Ren? Don't think I would want to have to move him during his primary school years. No idea how this works. Anyone any experience of this? It's still a long way off but want to know how it works currently.

Once your child has a place at a school I don't think they can be made to change school if you've moved out of the catchment area. I'm not absolutely sure, but I'd be surprised if there was any problem with your plan.

The East Ren schools are probably oversubscribed though.

You'll probably set a record for the first person ever to move to East Ren while keeping your child in a Glasgow school! Wink
Seriously though, think you would be entitled to keep him in his Glasgow school no matter where you were living. What I might check out though is how long in advance of your eldest starting secondary you need to be in the catchment.

I think although I may be wrong, that if you move in specifically to start secondary school the council have an obligation to offer you a place in one of the East Ren secondary schools, but if catchment secondary is full then you might be offered a place at any one of the others.

Hi, we moved to East Ren last summer, DD1 is still going to her Glasgow primary (p4). We had to put in a placing request for her to stay, but the Head Teacher advised us, before we decided to move, that because she had a place she would be able to keep it. DD1 will then move to an East Ren secondary. DD2 will go to an East Ren Catchment Primary when she is old enough.

Just to say I contacted Glasgow city council and they said that I would still have to submit a placing request to keep the wee one in the school, however this is just a formality and the child would keep the place. It's a long way off for us, so hopefully the rules won't change. Alternative would be for us to move before our eldest starts primary school, but don't ant to move so soon. So we will stay put.
