Does anyone commute from Eastbourne to London and what is it like?

Hello, my partner and I are thinking to move to Eastbourne from London. However, when I go back to work after maternity leave I will have to commute in two to three days in the week. Does anyone do that journey and if so, what is it like? It takes me just over one hour to get from where we currently live to my office and I have calculated that it would be an extra 40 minutes on top of that if I were to do it from Eastbourne. Cheers

I live just outside Eastbourne & don't commute but have friends that do.

Are you thinking of driving or train? Will you have to do it in rush hour?

Which bit of London?

Sorry to fire all those questions at you! Welcome to Eastbourne - we've been here for nearly 9 years now & love it.

Thank you for replying. I work in Vauxhall so will go by train into East Croydon then make my way from there on the overland. I've done EC to Vauxhall in 20 mins before but that was when everything went smoothly! It will be in rush hour too! Any advice as to the best bit of Eastbourne for commuters? Cheers

You will want to be within walking distance of the station as parking is expensive & difficult for all day.

Your other option would be Polegate, just outside Eastbourne where it is much easier & cheaper to park. The journey time is 10 minutes less.

I've gone to Vauxhall before but have always changed at Clapham Junction - it's only 2/3 mins from CJ & (I think) more trains. Also CJ is a much more sheltered staion if the weather is wet.

My daughter is at uni in London and commutes from Eastbourne. She doesn't mind the commute although she goes a bit further than you. She would be grateful to stop at East Croydon. :)

My husband commutes every day, he's says it's ok as the train is reliable. He also always gets a seat as it's the end of the line and uses the commute to work on stuff he can't get done in the office as he has meetings most of the day. If you are only commuting 2-3 times a week it should be ok :0)
