Hi all,

Wondered if you could help. Our family has decided to take the plunge and move to sunny Bournemouth. We have found a house in the Queens Park area but would like some opinions of the local secondary schools. I have researched as much as I can and would like to know what you think about Winton Arts and Media, Glenmoor, Avonbourne and Bishop of Winchester schools. Does anybody know which schools you are more likely to have a chance of getting into living in Queen park. From what I can see all of these schools have really improved but as I don't know anybody down there, wondered if anybody could give me their thoughts of what they think about them. I have a son in year 8, daughter in year 6 and another son in year 3.
Thank you.

Hi,

I have family members with children at both Glenmoor and Avonbourne. Avonbourne is definitely getting the better press! You would get into Bishop of Winchester and Avonbourne easily from Queens Park. Not 100% on the other two, sorry.

The dorset council website is usually quite helpful with catchment area maps. Which primary school were you thinking of for DS2?

Neither of my boys went to the ones on your list but I have great nieces at Glenmoor and great nephews at Winton, all seem to be getting on well there. DS2 goes to the Grammar School which has been pretty good so far, he's just gone into year 9. Both Grammar schools have links with Bishop of Winchester, which has a much better reputation than it had years ago and I would say has the best rep of the schools you listed. Many years ago we moved to Christchurch so DS1 could go to Twynham instead of the old Summerbee School that had an awful reputation for drugs in the late 90's/early 00's, it's really been turned around now it's BoW.

Hi, thank you for your help. Hoping to go and visit Avonbourne after xmas. Have been advised by Dorset CC that Queens park infants and juniors oversubscribed and will have to go on a waiting list but there are spaces in Winton primary school for my year 3 and year 6 children. I wonder if its possible to appeal if you I don't get offered a place at Queens Park as property we are buying just around the corner.
