Villages to the south of York

Hi we are relocating to York. I am looking for either an area south of York or a small town in between York and Leeds. Main thing is schools and clubs for dc need a good state primary which feeds to a good state secondary. Or if there are any independent secondary's that have academic burseries avail. Ideally looking for a new build 4 beds £250-£350.

Depends what you want from a place. Garforth is a good commuter town, has great primaries and an excellent secondary, train links to Leeds and York and easily accessible by car. It is a bit of a big housing estate though, apart from two excellent restaurants I'd say you'd have to travel out of it for entertainment, days out etc. if you're happy with that then it is a nice, friendly place.

If you want a bit more action, prettiness, history, closer to York etc have a look at Bishopthorpe and Copmanthorpe, villages to the south. I think Bishopthorpe feeds into Fulford School in York, which has an excellent reputation. Fulford is also worth a look, a bit closer into town but still has a feel of being a community of it's own.

Also Tadcaster is a nice looking town, worth investigating too I think.

All these places have very easy access to the A64.

I don't think Bishopthorpe and Copmanthorpe have a lot of action, I just meant they're closer to York.

Imo Garforth feels very much a part of Leeds, which it is, so a bit more suburban. Whereas villages to the south of York feel a little bit more, well, villagey.

Personally I'd want to be as close to York centre as possible, as I love it, but you may have different priorities/needs. The advantage of choosing a commuter town like Garforth means there's possibility of working in Leeds as well as York, although York has great train links to London, Edinburgh, Newcastle etc.

The children in Bishopthorpe go to both Fulford and Tadcaster Grammar Schools - some also go to Millthorpe.

Thank you, I have been looking at copmanthorpe and bishop Thorpe, also boroughbridge but not sure if there is enough in terms of clubs etc for dc. We are spoiled where we live now as there is just about anything the children want to do within 10 mins from home. Also if schools are good will I get a place? I will need y2, y1 and nurs.
