Newgal in town (soon), looking for some advice on areas and schools...

I am a mother with twin children moving into the area for work. I need to be slightly north of Reading to get to work, but other than that, I am keen to understand more about the areas to live in and most importantly the lowdown on schooling! My twins are in primary school, year 4 and so have another couple years in ps before moving to secondary. We would prefer a village feel but schools take priority for us. Can anyone help? Also, do we need an address in the area before we can apply to schools? Thanks!

Hi NewGal - we'll be moving into Caversham in a month, and we're hoping to get DD into Caversham Park as I believe it's on the up (currently level 2 ofsted report)

Thanks for your message. Caversham park seems quite good. Do you need an address to get DD in? The secondaries don't seem too great in Reading area, and it seems that good schools oversubscribed. Is that your impression as well?

Hello, we're moving to Caversham in a month too, I've been told we are on the edge of the catchment area for Caversham Park so prob won't get in. It's meant to be a good school, but very popular!

Hi Newgal and kt3

I don't know if you need an address to get into Caversham Park, but I would expect you do, we're within 500 m of the school so really hoping we'll get in - but you never know we may find that's even too far out it does seem to be very over subscribed.

KT I believ one of the other schools is really quite good too - although off the top of my head I couldn't tell you which.

How old are your DC's?

Hello, mine are 1 & 3, so the eldest while start school next September. I have had a look into it now and i know i can apply for Caversham Park and Thameside, (and one other that i can't remember!) and there is also the The Heights.

Thank you for your help!
