What is your experience with haircuts and hygiene? Many thanks!

I have always been a little bit disappointed with Ejaje but never have been to Hairy Canary.

Elaje butchered my ds's hair. Asymetrical fringe (honestly) and forgot to cut about an inch off one part of the back of his hair. When I took him to have his hair re-cut at the local barber (Edie's) on Cherry Hinton Road (who I can thoroughly recommend), even they gasped in horror and asked who on earth had done that to him.

Can't comment on Hairy Canary.

Nbofcambsyet - mine was a similar story!

Thank you for the comments. Actually, I wanted it for myself and now I am not sure where to have a haircut. Good hairdressers charge £50.00 and I cannot afford it.

I will post another question.

With Hairy Canary you get a good cut at a reasonable price but little customer service. At Elaje you get excellent customer service, a fair cut and reasonable price. It depends what you want from a visit to the hairdressers.

The owner of Hairy Canary is incredibly rude. I phoned to book for highlights and she demanded half of the money as deposit! When I said I wasn't happy to do that she turned really nasty and had the cheek to say that if I wasn't planning on cancelling then I had nothing to fear by paying her 50% deposit three weeks before the appointment! I then said "thank you, I'll think about it" and, completely missing my sarcasm, she replied "fine, but you do know that I'm not holding this appointment until I get the deposit?"
WTF?

Nbofcambsyet · 15/05/2013 22:48

I was just going to say that I do not mind if they do not wash my hair but in return they must cut my hair very well and the brushes should be clean. But I did not expect this sort of customer care. No thanks. I have never been asked a deposit.
Will find something else. Thanks.

Just to say, I'm really surprised by the comments about Hairy Canary. I've been having my hair cut there for years, and I've never been treated anything but politely. I think Lulu (the owner) is one of the best cutters I've ever had, though I can't speak for the other staff who do seem to change very frequently. I don't get my hair coloured there any more as it's too expensive, but I still go there for the cuts.

I know this is an old thread but I've just been to Elaje (3rd visit) and I have to say I had fantastic cut and highlights.

MaGratgarlik1983 · 14/03/2019 10:38

Yes Elaje is great.

Along with my family and friends, I have been having my hair, nails and lashes done at Elaje for years. The customer service is and always has been amazing. Are they expensive, no more than any other top notch salon. Run of the mill hairdresser and barber shops are charging inflated prices now anyway , but atleast at @elaje you’re guaranteed an excellent service. We have our hair cut/coloured twice a year, and because the cut is so good it grows out beautifully. This is of course mine and my family/friends experience, but I cannot imagine anyone’s hair being “butchered” Not a single member of staff will treat you with anything other than politeness and respect and the owner has very high standards. I just wanted to give a true and genuine update to this thread.
