Planned 'knit in' to protest Welfare Reform Act in Dundee

No Return to the Poorhouse!

  1. The Welfare Reform Act and the planned Universal Credit will disproportionately disadvantage low income women.
  2. The Welfare Reform Act and the planned Universal Credit will have a substantive and detrimental affect on women's financial independence.
  3. The Welfare Reform Act will have a real and detrimental affect on the funding of organisations such as Women's Aid and impact their abiity to help at risk women.

We say No! So we are having a 'knit in'!

This is a women-only action, precisely to draw attention to how these changes are going to impact women.
There is another planned lobby of the LibDem conference taking part earlier in the day that is open to all.

Our targets are selected from those on the UKUncut website (UKUncut.org.uk), from companies that are lax in paying their taxes. The coalition government says we are all in this together, that 'austerity' applies to us all-they should start by chasing those wealthy multinationals that avoid paying tax, rather than attacking the very poorest.

To get attention and drive home the message that women are at risk of being sent back to poorhouse conditions, we're planning Victorian peasant garb - long dark skirts, pale shirts, shawls and headscarves.
We're also bringing knitting as women were given knitting to do in the poorhouse.
If you'd like to learn to knit, this'll be a great opportunity. If you'd like us to bring extra shawls, headscarves or knitting, give us a shout.

The FB event is here:

We are also listed on the UKUncut website here:

We would love it if you could join us! And even if you can't, it would be great if you could help us spread the word!

If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them :)
