Recommendations for Brighton please (days out, Drs, places to eat etc)

We?re moving to Brighton soon and I?d love some recommendations. We?ll be living near to Hollingbury Park. Need to know some practical stuff such as good Drs and NHS dentists and some fun stuff too. We?ve visited quite a few parks on previous visits but not much else. The tourist information website is helpful but it says everything is great!! We?d much prefer to have some personal recommendations.

Also, is there a good way to find out about local events (web page, local newspaper perhaps)? We have two young children (5 and 2) so knowledge of family restaurants, walks, markets etc would be lovely. Thanks!

Bill's in Brighton is great for breakfast at the weekend, although it gets very busy after 10am. And the nearby Painting Pottery Cafe is great for a crafty day out.

The local paper is the Argus www.theargus.co.uk.

The Brighton Dome cafe is a nice place to take children too during for the day for a relaxed coffee and there tends to be other families around giving it a really nice opportunity for playing.

Also, it's a one off but tomorrow (Thurs 21st) there's a story telling hour at the Iron Duke Theatre on Waterloo Road, Hove at 1pm for children up to 6. It's only a fiver for the whole family and might become a regular thing.

Cheap & cheerful & loved by all kids - Days Restaurant - it's sort of help yourself eat as much as you like, predominately Chinese (usually full of Chinese people eating, which is always a good sign) , but with sushi, indian & more thrown in, its huge with a massive choice including chocolate fountains, sweets & ice cream fridge to keep the kids happy - or prepared fruits to keep you happy if that's what you prefer - set price, but depends on when you go, weekend Eve's most expensive, but still very cheap & mid week afternoons are cheapest - food actually isn't that bad either, but we found it takes a few goes before you get the hang of the place & find the good stuff as the choice can be a bit overwhelming - great place for birthday treats too as they always make kids welcome & even with a gang, it won't break the bank

Days out - too much to mention, but Devils Dyke is a short bus ride away, beautiful views, great for picnics kite flying & walks & there's a pub if you prefer to eat in or it's too cold for picnics

Booth museum is a good free afternoon for adults & kids out & a great park right opposite

Rottingdean beach is our favourite, good for rock pooling & swimming as the break walls make it a bit safer for kids to swim & its not too commercial & the tourists don't go that far - again a short bus ride
