We've planned to meet two other families in cambridge next weekend to appoint our best friends as Guide Parents to our children. We'd planned a big deli picnic and games in one of the gorgeous parks but weather looks set to scupper our plans!

There will be 6 adults and 6 kids ranging from 10 months to 9 years and Cambridge is a good halfway meeting point. We didn't want an official ceremony but we do want a chance to meet up, play and treat our friends to some nice food.

So, can anyone recommend a special cafe (maybe in the grounds of a garden) or good family friendly gastro pub or any other activity that will allow us to escape the rain!

Thanks MN Cambridge.

Botanical Gardens!

Even if the weather is terrible, they have an indoor cafe, that is really nice!

its brilliant, i go all the time. brilliant for children, babies, me! The cakes are lovely, the salad wholesome and its just so beautiful.

I always go to the bit of lawn opposite the cafe as you can take food out there, and the kids can run around besides you.

you can take picnics in there too and picnic by the lakes or fountain.

Anglesey Abbey (NT property) has a good cafe and is lovely to walk around if you do get a break in the weather. Milton Country Park also has a nice cafe and play area etc but perhaps is a bit ordinary for a special event. Wimpole Hall (also NT) has a farm for the kids, cafe, play area etc - have never been to the restaurant but could be good. Or The Orchard in Grantchester (or any Grantchester pub, actually) which is a tea room with you guessed it, an orchard, but very special...

Where did you go in the end??
