Hi I am a single mum and it is one of my kids free weekends this weekend and I really wanted to go out and have fun with my single girlfriend. Guildford is my nearest big town so I thought we should go there. Can anyone give me any advice on where is fun to go out on a Friday night. Somewhere lively, but quite dressy and sophisticated. I am 38 so no where too young. Thank you for any advice.

Tickled Ivory right at the bottom of town is a lively piano bar. They have live musicians and plenty of dancing, gets particularly busy on a Staurday night.
Its not cheap, so you don't get many 'student types' in there. It is over 21's at the weekend. Check it out

There is also Rogues Bar right at the top end of town, I belive it is over 25's in there but dont quote me on it. Rogues

Both of these places are Guildford Centre, but on the further reaches, rather than the ones smack bang in the middle that attract the groups who are on the lookout for cheap deals.

Have a great night!

Thanks RaisingEmbers, I really appreciate the advice. I will check them out. Just seen thought that the weather is meant to be pretty awful on Friday so might not make it out after all. I do hope not as I could do with a bit of fun for a change. Have a good rest of your week. x

I just found this board to ask almost the same question! Single mum, looking for a decent place to go out, dance, have fun but not feel like I am too old to be there (39!). MagicMollie please let me know what you find and how your experience is, my child free weekend is not for another couple of weeks :-)

Do you both live locally to Guildford then?
If you want a boogie, definitely give Tickled Ivory a go.
Less interested in music and crowds, then Rogues is better for you. There are loads of wine bars/over 21s bars in Guildford, just gotta know where to look I guess.

Raisingembers, I live just north but do not get the chance to get into town very often! I will look at both places you suggest, I live in fear of being in a teenag meat market.

Hi Wrigglytummy.
Unfortunately my daughter was ill, super high temp, apparently it is going around her school. So I did not make it out in the end. When I do finally I will let you know. If you make it out please let me know too. Have a good weekend everyone. x
