I'm am determined to make the Belfast Local Boards (and Co Antrim, where I also Tsarina!) more active!

Who is up for a conversation about living in Belfast and the absolute lack of child friendly places to go?! Grin

Seriously, anyone about?

Wow! Lots and lots of June babies! My son was a June baby, as mentioned up thread. Of course, he's going to be 3.

It's an excellent time to be born. Grin

My dd1 is a June baby, but she's going to be 7 Shock

emblosion · 30/01/2012 18:37

Grin loving the image of a bunch of us with red roses pinned to our Boden nighties in the Ulster in June!

Haven't quite decided between the Ulster and the Midwifery led unit at the Downe yet. Would love midwifery led, but it just bothers me that there are no Doctors on hand if something were to go wrong.....

AnEcumenicalMatter · 30/01/2012 19:47

That would bother me too, emblosion. And I know it put my friend of the midwife unit at Lagan Valley for the same reason...and as it happens she needed and emcs in the end.

The Ulster is my closest hospital so it was an easy choice for me but I think it's got the benefit of being mostly midwife led, has the 'home from home' set-up etc. but with the back up of surgeons/consultants if needed.

emblosion · 30/01/2012 21:01

Yep, its totally the thought of the 45 minute journey up the road in the ambulance to the Ulster in an emergency that bothers me.... On the other hand, the care in the Downe has been brilliant so far, and everything might be fine. Am going to talk it over with the midwives at my next appointment I reckon and take it from there.

emblosion · 30/01/2012 23:48

Ps. Tee and wiggles I was chatting to my gran this evening and she strongly agrees that June is the best time to have a baby/birthday, ha ha!

AnEcumenicalMatter · 31/01/2012 17:09

Everyone says how it'll be lovely to have a June baby as it's summer and I'll be able to get out and about with baby...they seem to forget that this is NI and, if we're lucky, 'summer' will be a nice long weekend in April or May followed by unrelenting pishing rain until October!

OhBrotherWhereArtThou · 02/02/2012 20:30

DC1 was born in August in the middle of a heat-wave. I spent nearly a week on the ward, melting. It was horrible. Was quite happy to have number two in February!

Funny that there are so many of us due in June, I've been wondering what was on TV back in September, can't have been any good :o

AnEcumenicalMatter · 02/02/2012 20:32

It was more like a lack of TV in my case, OhBrother...and access to way too much booze on an all-inclusive holiday Blush

Lilyni · 02/02/2012 21:31

hi everyone ... i am also due in june ... with twins! we already have 3 ds so twins was a bit oé a surprise. had the boys in lagan valley but goin to craigavon this time! hope everyone is well!

therumoursaretrue · 02/02/2012 21:34

First scan yesterday! I was panicking right up to the minute LO appeared on the monitor but there is really nothing like seeing the baby for the first time Grin Amazing!

All seems to be fine and there is only one in there...BF has been panicking about twins so think that was a relief for him!

He/she was having a little party in there, I had no idea they would be so active already!

Has definitely put my mind at rest and its all feeling more real now.

Hope everyone else is having a good week.

OhBrotherWhereArtThou · 03/02/2012 00:48

AEM, my story isn't much better - DP had taken to buying a bottle of wine because getting me tipsy was the only way to get some!

Lily wow! Hope you're feeling well! You'll be a busy woman! I think I'd be hiding in a corner rocking!

Rumours I had my 20 week scan last week. Just as I was getting settled, the sonographer decided to tell me that she had had a case the week before where twins had been missed at 12 weeks. Nerves just jumped into my throat, instantly imagining I would end up one of those cases, but not this time! One of the first two pregnancies, yes fine, but on no. 3, not so keen! Definitely not no. 4 ^^

AnEcumenicalMatter · 03/02/2012 04:43

My friend didnt find out she was having twins until 20 weeks! She already had a DC who was just 2 when the twins were born. So I'm in mild panic about my 20 week scan next week!!

TeeTsarina · 03/02/2012 07:02

I still remember my 20 week scan. The sonographer had the personality of a wet noodle. Barely told me what I was seeing.

Of course I was scanned more or less every other week as I'm diabetic and at the Endo Clinic at the Royal. They have sonograms in every room so you get scanned all the time! So lovely.

I wouldn't recommend the diabetic part, though. Grin

Can I join in this thread? In work so don't have time to read all the messages. But I'm in Craigavon and would love to meet up with other mums. I had to go back to work very early after having DS so never made it to mum and baby groups. :( DS is 18 months and I can meet anyone anywhere at the weekend :)

Pookmasterflex · 07/02/2012 22:25

I'm also in Belfast.

As for baby friendly places, I just discovered that the Odeon Cinema has a mum/dad and baby showing everyday at noon and it's only 3 pounds! I went with a friend today and it was brilliant. About 15 mums & dads with their babies (most seemed about 3 months to a year old). I highly recommend it!

NeedlesCuties · 08/02/2012 15:04

Just popping back onto this thread as I'd fallen off due to not posting for a while.

Drove past the Abbeycentre yesterday and they have demolished the Samuel Johnston unit, so yeah, it's well and truly closed or moved!

In better news: DH and I have booked a holiday for ourselves and DS to go to Portugal in April for some sun, sea and sand before DC2 comes in August. Woohoo!!!

TeeTsarina · 08/02/2012 15:46

It's moved. I was at the city centre store last week asked! I can't remember where to, though!

Welcome all!

Weather might actually get better soon...who wants to do a meet up?!?!?

OP posts:
NeedlesCuties · 08/02/2012 17:17

I'm up for a meet-up :)

With kids or without?

AnEcumenicalMatter · 08/02/2012 18:46

Samuel Johnston's Abbeycentre store has relocated to Mallusk. Map is on their website.

therumoursaretrue · 08/02/2012 21:09

Oh needles that sounds lovely! I was in Lagos last year and loved it. DP and I would love to get away but don't know if we will have time so maybe a long weekend somewhere.

Watching one born every minute tonight, does anyone else watch it?

NeedlesCuties · 09/02/2012 08:35

ecumenical thanks for that info re Jonhston's, I do like them a bit more than Mothercare so must call up sometime.

I LOVE One Born Every Minute, have watched all 3 series. 1st was on when I was pregnant with DS, 2nd series was on when I was still bfing DS and now this 3rd series is on when I'm pregnant with DC2!!

Didn't see it last night, was out at a friend's, but have Sky+ it to watch later.

rumours some of the women on the August Pregnancy thread were talking about it last night though, you should swing past that thread again.

therumoursaretrue · 09/02/2012 19:51

I also would be up for a meet-up!

Yes I'll have to re-acquaint myself with the august thread needles I'm usually on my phone and always too lazy to scroll to the last post as there are so many pages on it so will pop in when I'm on my laptop!

BlackLashes · 09/02/2012 20:58

Another N.I. girl here. From Holywood. 6 year old twins. Don't know if any of you live in East Belfast? Isn't there a soft play place in Ballyhackamore, near M&S?

AnEcumenicalMatter · 09/02/2012 21:07

I'm in East Belfast, very near Ballyhack. Not aware of a soft play place...there is a cafe beside M&S which is family friendly and maybe has a separate play area? Called Jellybean I think but I've never been in it.
