what kind of food do you like?

chinese - ho wong

italian - italian kitchen/paperinos/sartis

jamies kitchen

indian - southside of glasgow probably has the most authentic food (kababish), but balbir's in west end is also good as is mr singh's india and shish mahal

lannsdown in west end is also good

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 09/01/2012 22:39

who's going? what's your budget?

Alibobster · 10/01/2012 07:53

Just me and DH going- don't have a set budget so will consider anything. Italian kitchen and Balbir's are two of our favourites Sabas. Don't fancy Jamie Oliver's place as I can't stand the guy ( I know that is daft! )never heard of Lannsdown so I'll have a look at that.

Thanks x

if it's just you and dh then i'd book in at the Crabshakk. hideous name, amazing food. www.urbanspoon.com/r/340/1430758/restaurant/West-End/Crabshakk-Glasgow

i always like gandolfi in town as well, such a nice atmosphere.

AgentProvocateur · 10/01/2012 09:16

Yes, I second Gandolfi. Also, Urban on St Vincent St is nice for a special meal, and the Butchershop Grill opposite Kelvingrove is fantastic (but maybe not if you're a veggie...)

fifegirl75 · 10/01/2012 12:18

Not west end or city centre but my favourite is Battlefield Rest in Langside (next to Victoria Hospital). You can get a train to Mount Florida station from Central. It is Italian, the service and food are great and really reasonable prices.

29 in Royal Exchange Square. Amazing home made bread!

Alibobster · 11/01/2012 14:17

Thanks for all the great recommendations. Aitch, I'm desperate to go to Crabshakk but dh not a big seafood fan :(, maybe for my birthday though. We're now going to go to Glasgow in the afternoon for a few drinks , rather than evening, and see what takes our fancy on the day. Thanks again for your help x

Dhabba in the merchant city is an utterly fantastic Indian restaurant and a very stylish place to go too.

bethelbeth · 11/01/2012 23:30

Seconding crabshakk it's amazing. Even their fish and chips are to die for.

Stravaigin is good and varied. Nanakusa for japanese. Amore for italian.

Have a lovely day!

might be a bit late now but ate in opium on hope street a few weeks ago and it was amazing. Beautiful chinese food, great cocktails and friendly service.
