York mums of shy kids?

I have a little boy aged 2.8 who is very sensitive and doesn?t like large groups of children (playgroups etc). I have tried in vain to settle him into a nursery. This year he has become increasingly upset by children who push and shove, as I know is common for this age group, and are generally too boisterous and overwhelming for him. At the moment he doesn?t want to go where there are any other children and we're a bit isolated. He is friendly when he feels comfortable. I wonder if he could get the socialisation with other children he needs if we could only find other children who were a bit more like him. Are there any other York mums in a similar situation who might like to meet up?

Have you tried any of the smaller, more structured groups such as song box or mini musicians? Usually no more than 8 - 10 children, and they tend to be less boisterous than playgroups.

I've tried both, and currently take my ds to mini musicians in Heworth on Fri mornings (they have a group in heslington too). It's only 45 mins long, and is run by two lovely ladies. Both quiet and more confident children get something out of it. Highly recommended.

Hope this helps!
