Thinking of moving to Maidstone

I've lived in South London all my life but we are looking for a new house and are going to have a look in Maidstone next week. I've registered with Page and Wells as they have a lovely house we want to see. Which other estate agents would you recommend?

Can you tell me what you like/dislike about Maidstone and which areas I should look at and which ones I should avoid.

We don't need to be near a station as DH works from home. I think I'd rather be in town than in a nearby village or it might be too much of a jump for me. I have a licence but I hardly ever drive - I hate driving but I realise I'll have to drive more if I'm not living in London.

I have a toddler and I'm due to have another baby in April - are there plenty of things for mums and babies to do?

Thank you!

Hi All,

I know this thread is probably dead, but wont mind any advise given. We are looking to move from South London as well to Maidstone. We have been down and quite liked Allington, but beyond what we could afford. We would be looking to spend upto £250K for a 3bed, so looking for nice family area with good schools, probably within the Grammar schools catchment area. Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Hi Tropicalsun40,

We have the same problem here. Want to move to Maidstone, like Allington but our budget is £250K. Have you bought a property yet?

Florin · 28/08/2015 19:16

I don't think any area in Maidstone is a good area to live in. Have you gone for a walk around the town? I would have a look further out into villages way out of Maidstone if I were you.

We are looking for a house to rent in Maidstone. We have just looked one in Stafford Gardens in Tovil. Can anyone tell me if this neighbourhood is safe to live and any recommendations for primary schools in its catchment area?. Thanks

Sonia9999 · 11/01/2016 21:33

Could anyone tell me what primary schools in Maidstone should we avoid to apply for our kids?We do not know this area and we are a bit worried about the primary schools and neighbourhoods to live. Thank you in advance for your soonest answers..

Florin · 14/01/2016 09:49

Where will you be living as you will have to live near a school to get in. I would go as far out of Maidstone as possible.

Sonia9999 · 14/01/2016 11:49

Hi Florin! The thing is that I do not like to drive and I would prefer to have eveerything near home. Someone told me Penenden Heath is near the center and the schools around it are goodd. What do you think about it? can you give opinions among Noryh Borough, East Borought, Sandling and Brunswick?. Do you think it would be easier to enter in one of those in February or March?. thanks

Florin · 14/01/2016 15:22

To be honest we live about 15 miles away however we just avoid Maidstone in total as it really isn't very nice and I wouldn't be happy my son going to any school in that area. If you don't drive have you considered Tunbridge Wells.

Sonia9999 · 14/01/2016 15:52

Thank you. I thought Maidstone had good schools...So, I will look for a house in Tonbridge. Apart from Tb, Sevenoaks, Bearsted... What else?...For me the most important thing is the school and a place in wchich my children can practice another activities...swimming, tennis, etc? and we need a place which has life...

Florin · 14/01/2016 16:21

Sevenoaks is extremely lovely but a lot more expensive but would give you everything you are looking for and more. Catchment areas for the schools are tiny though so check them very carefully. Tunbridge Wells is lovely although can be a pain with the traffic however if you don't drive that wouldn't affect you. Tonbridge isn't quite as nice but still a great place to live and a million times nicer than Maidstone and is very much up and coming. Tonbridge has an excellent park and a wonderful swimming pool which has a tunnel through to a lovely outside pool in the summer.

The problem is that my husband has to drive everyday to Maidstone. cOuld you give us recommendations about primary and secondary schools (in case we had to move in Maidstone). This information would be very interesting for me. Tks

Florin · 24/01/2016 06:02

Sorry I can't as we have never looked at the schools as I wouldn't be happy my child going to any school in Maidstone whatever the ofsted rating was.

Floralnomad · 25/01/2016 00:00

Penenden Heath , Bearsted , Grove green areas are all very nice , not sure of the availability in the local primaries but St. John's and Roseacre are well thought of . The Maidstone grammar schools are all good and Valley Park is also ok .

Sonia9999 · 25/01/2016 07:47

thank you. What do you think about Brunswick primary, palace wood primary and st francis catholic primary?. Are they good schools?

Floralnomad · 25/01/2016 12:02

I have no experience of any of those but a friend had children at Palace Wood and she was happy with it .

Hi there

We're going to view a property on Darwin Avenue near Morrisons in Maidstone.

We love the house but new to the area, does anyone know what this area/street is like?

Any help would be great Smile

Thank you!!

We moved to Maidstone from Bromley last year and couldn't be happier. My daughter goes to St Francis. It's a lovely school with a great ethos and outstanding teaching. The standard of education also seems higher than in London. My son was lucky enough to get a place at St Simon Stock. We are very happy here. Beautiful countryside and decent commute into London. Wish we had done this years ago.
