IoW Mums of older primary school children?

Hi! I'm new, until recently a FT working Mum but now P/T and self-employed, so have even less time on my hands!

Wondered if there were any parents whose children are caught up in the school reorg here? My DD is in the first year 5 to stay in Primary - and the school seem to have been taken by surprise by some of the issues that they are facing!
Would be great to hear from others in a similar position x

I'm an IoW mum, but DC1 is in reception. Though his class get the brandnew classroom next year (not yr 6??) which hasn't yet been built....

Where do I start! I don't know if it's because of the "middle school phenomenon" but for some reason, my DD's class have all suddenly become pre-teens!

Facebook, mobile phones, boys, being home alone, laziness and an attitude all seem to be the norm - and the school aren't helping by making the year 5's "extra special" - they are getting a bit too big for their boots!

Hi, yes I have DTs in year 5 and think they're going to have a he'll of a shock when they get to high school, oldest in the school for three years inset good, however I do agree with the changes (at least in principle!)

Me too, I think it needed to be changed - just a bit peeved that DD is in the middle of it! - I went through a 2 tier, so the three tier was a bit tricky to get my head around - but DD being top of the school for three years is going to mean she comes down to earth with a bump when they go to high/secondary/academy in 2012!

DD has a new teacher in Sept - he is from a middle school, so I'm hoping he'll bring a bit a reality to their lives. I just wish the school would realise that they're not doing them any favours - DD "forgot" her homework a few weeks ago, but because she'd done some other work instead (that she found more interesting), she got stickers/stars rather than a stern talking to! Can't see that happening in High School!

Ah - primary teachers not quite understanding how to deal with 10yr olds, eh?

I think the influx of new staff from middle schools or (like us) from the mainland can only help from sept.

At least the current yr5 won't be the guinea-pig yr7's at high school. They start this sept and I think that's going to be quite a shock for them all!

I'm struggling to deal with a 10 year old, so I can see their problem - I kind of assumed because DD was staying a PS, she would carry on behaving like a PS child - I now understand why middle schools started at this age - DD has totally changed in a matter of months from a "child" to a.....what is the current term....tween, pre-teen, brat....!!

We had a middle school teacher start in Yr5, the other Yr5 teacher had previously taught middle school and generally I think it's been much better, however, both classes seem to be quite different, they were supposed to start getting detention if they didn't hand their homework in on time but this rarely happens with one of the classes...

My DS is too young for school yet but as I live on the Island, I'm curious. What's happening?

Hi, my DS is the first year to have stayed on at Christ the King and that has not been all plain sailing either. In some ways I think moving him to a High School would have been more beneficial, but still, cant go back now. I too do not think it terrible good that he will be top year for 4 years! (6 if they have the 6th form there as they are supposed to be having) It is a pain to be in the middle of all the changes, but I suppose someone has to be!

Ballet the old 3 tier system is being brought in line with the "national normal" 2 tier system, so for 2 years the Primaries are keeping the children who would have moved on to Middle, and then they will go straight to secondary for year 7. Then there will be no middle schools.

It did need doing, but I do think the council could have been more organised. Dsis is a teacher at Primary and says it is ridiculous how little preparation and thought has gone into it all. Expanding a school by 2 years, but without the classrooms to actually accommodate them.
