Can anyone recommend a private tutor (maths/english) in Guildford to prepare Yr1 child for prep school entrance exams in Oct'11?

Am ideally looking for someone who has an idea about what the prep schools such as Lanesborough test the children. I have contacted several of the tutoring agencies but am always happier to go with a recommendation. Many thanks

sorry if its obvious, but is your child currently in reception and "transferring" to a prep school in yr ???

if so i dont think you need any special preparation. mine are just transferring this sept into yrs 3 and 6 and went for their test/assessment with no preparation at all, its all very basic just verbal reassoning, maths and i think english.

Agreed. Crazy idea to tutor a child at that age. They will be looking at aptitude tests and social tests appropriate to the age group. Why don't you speak to the schools and find out exactly what's involved? My view is that if your child can't get into an academically selective school on their own merit, then you should consider that the school isn't right for your child!

I hope this helps.

Just checked, I think you're actually going into Yr3. You need to check with current teachers as to your son's level, he should be level 3 in all elements at Yr2 SATS to get along in the selective private system. I'm sure they can help you by setting extra maths and english to ensure you have the bases covered. As before, if you have to tutor him, you're probably in the wrong place. Also make sure you've run through standard verbal and non-verbal reasoning tests with him before the entrance exam (you can get these at waterstones).

Sorry to be direct, but I hope this helps.

Have you tried firsttutors.co.uk? I used this as a tutor to advertise locally. Afraid I am pregnant again now though so not able to help!
