Hi All,

We have just moved to the Chorlton area and My DD has started primary school. However, she is finding it difficult to make friends as she is usually the only child amongst adults. We do not have any friends with children and there are not many children in the family. Im hoping the teachers encourage her to play with others, however, I would really like to help her form some friendships.

if anyone can recommend clubs etc that would be great.

Kind Regards

Hi!
I am just around the corner in Old Trafford (Chorlton borders as I like to call it!) Got a little girl of 2.5 and a newborn (boy) Not too sure about clubs as my daughter is still at the age of toddler groups etc although there is a new music group starting on Saturday in Streford called Little jammers which I am going to take my little one to, and which is for 0-5 year olds. Do you have a car, as there is also Glo family in Cheadle which runs different classes, many of which are on at the weekend. Where have you moved from? Chorlton is great and very family friendly

Hello both!

I'm moving to the chorlton area - Wink more like old trafford - next month and have a 4yo DD. We know absolutely nobody in the area so would be happy to meet up or visit one the groups suggested by MrsMackie (thanks for your ballet class tips on the other thread btw).

Mrsmackie · 06/02/2011 20:56

Hi Topsmart
Ooh, well keep in touch. My daughter is only 2.5 but she loves playing with slightly older children too so always happy to meet up. There are loads of things to do in and around the area for families. Is your daughter at school yet?

topsmart · 06/02/2011 21:39

Cheers MrsMackie, will do.
She's due to start in sept, so we've had to apply despite not yet knowing where exactly we'll be living... bonkers.
Gone for Seymour park, kings road and manley inf. Guess yours are too little to worry about that yet!

Mrsmackie · 06/02/2011 22:10

Well, we need to apply in Sept (our dd has summer birthday so will start school next Sept) Going to go for Seymour park as first choice - been to look around and seems very nice and headteacher was lovely. Will probably put Kings Rd and Manley park down too. So have you any idea where you are going to be living?

topsmart · 07/02/2011 17:31

What a coincidence! Would have been lovely to put down more choices as well as these three, to give us more flexibility in moving, but we had to complete our 'local' form by their deadline - this meant waltham forest, and they only allow 3 choices. Drat! I thought the same about Seymour Park, lovely school. But we'll be right down the bottom of the waiting list... Wish us luck!

Anyway, we think we've found a house to rent near the leisure centre - one of the streets off manchester rd.

Mrsmackie · 07/02/2011 22:35

I'm Kings Road way so not far from Manchester road - usually walk that route into Chorlton too. There are some fab little shops along there (my DD loves the ice cream shop on the corner)

In case it is of any use to meeting parents/carers with children of a similar age in your area, I come with news from the "dark side" Wink...

NETMUMS OFFICIAL MEETUPS TRAFFORD

MONDAY 14TH FEB at 10.30am
Stretford Sure Start Centre, Poplar Road.
Another Netmums meetup - this is suitable for children of all ages due to the fantastic playgroup facilities. No cost!!

Please come and make this a successful meet so we can continue to use the excellent Sure Start facilities!

Mrsmackie · 08/02/2011 13:38

Fenner - I am actually a member of the Trafford netmums group - are you?? Been to three of the surestart meets so far and they have been really good

fenner · 08/02/2011 14:20

Mrs. M - I haven't been to one yet, but was thinking I might come along to this one. Are you planning on going?

I'm usually at a loss for how to keep my DS (who's 3) busy over half term, as he's very energetic and I can only take so many games of hide and seek, etc!

topsmart · 08/02/2011 18:15

Oh drat, we won't have moved up by then. Tell us next time tho!

Mrsmackie · 08/02/2011 19:24

Fenner - this will be first one I won't be able to get to as we have other plans. Will definitely be at future ones though. You should go though as it's a really nice Sure Start with plenty of good toys, craft stuff etc. All the mums at the previous ones have been really friendly too. The plan is to do a meet there once a month and perhaps other things in between - my friend has set up a facebook site so join up if you want to see what is happening!

fenner · 08/02/2011 20:51

Thanks, will do.

sleeplessinseatle · 16/02/2011 19:45

Fenner
Chorlton leisure centre has kids activity session 3 days a week, even in half term. Think it is £2.50 and they put out a full size bouncy castle and slides etc (indoors)

fenner · 16/02/2011 20:51

Thanks, sleepless. I'll look into that. He's hardly in school at all over April!

rocketupbum · 02/03/2011 08:49

Just to add, Stretford Leisure centre also has playgroup (tiny teds) tues, thurs and friday from about 1030. Bit no frills but some singing, ball pool and slides. Always friendly and on in school hols.

lauramc24 · 03/03/2011 00:48
