Anyone know a good dance class for kids (ballet etc) near Chorlton?

DD currently attends a ballet class on saturday mornings - I say 'ballet' but really it's jumping and skipping in a tutu. We're moving up to the area in a month (eek) and I'd like to sort something similar for her ASAP. Anyone have any recommendations? DD is 4.

Glo family centre in Cheadle does classes I think.

There's a long list of local dance classes on the Manchester Netmums site. (Feeling a little sacrilegious now, but it's true! :) )

Cheers! I shall venture into the dark side and check them out.

Did you find anything topsmart? My 4yo DD would love to start ballet lessons.

topsmart · 05/02/2011 19:29

Haven't had a chance to properly peruse the netmums list choppy but i did get chatting to a very lovely mum today with a daughter in ballet outfit - they go to lessons Saturday mornings at the chorlton Irish club. Sessions at 10-11 and 11-12 but no contact details, said to just show up. So we'll give it a go when we move up next month and I'll report back.

Cheers Topsmart. Think I'll give the Irish Club a try. One of DD's school friends goes to a ballet class at St Werburghs but it's at 9am - too early for me on a Saturday!

mrsmackie thanks for the glofamily tip-off - just looked at their website and looks gorgeous! Extremely yummymummyish. Am intimidated by the talk of Botox sessions but the playspace looks lovely.

Topsmart - it is quite posh but we're not and they let us in!! Didn't know they offered botox sessions - how funny. It's just somewhere a bit different from the usual soft play and I think they do quite a lot of activities for pre-schoolers too. My friend had her little boy's second birthday party there and it was really well organised.

topsmart · 17/02/2011 13:44

Phew! I'll risk a visit then! Does look lovely for a coffee and the activities list looks v interesting - especially those one-off weekend things (like the ball skills). thanks again!

I was thinking the same thing when I looked at the website. I wish someone would open something like it in Sale or Altrincham. You would have thought there would be enough families with young children around to provide a large enough customer base for it.

Took DD to the class at Chorlton Irish Club on Saturday and it was absolutely lovely. Bit of ballet, bit of tap and lots of skipping around like a fairy.

DD is 4.5 (one of the oldest in school nursery class) and was fine in the older group at 10am.

topsmart · 02/03/2011 19:39

Brilliant! Glad it worked out. We're moving up next week so I'll be bringing my DD - same age (dec 2006?) - see you there!

Whoops should have said we'll see you there soon, not necessarily next week - need to unpack and find the ballet kit first!

See you there! Good luck with the move.

Catholic Church at the end of Darley Avenue in West Didsbury, Saturday mornings from 9.30, does ballet, tap and jazz although in reality it's quite a lot of stomping about GrinRun by Didsbury Theatre School

There is also a v posh v strict on on Clyde Road very traditional, have to have their hair right and everything

topsmart · 03/03/2011 09:35

ooh i'm not sure if my DD and her unruly mop can cope with proper hair. But thanks for the darley ave tip!

Was going to suggest Didsbury Theatre School but can see it's already been done. Must point out though, that the Catholic Church is on the other side of the Parkway(St Ambrose) and the church hall where DTS is held is Christ Church - very much C of E!

Choppychopster, not sure you'll see this in time, but we're heading to the 10am ballet tomorrow. DH has a beard and I have brown hair. So if you want to be met in RL you can spot us! Don't let the beard put you off ;)

Nice to meet you on Saturday, topsmart. Hope that your DD enjoyed the class.

We're not going this week as DH and I are away for the weekend (yay!), but might see you at the pub meet up next week.

Oh, and as you'veprobably spotted by now, beards are v. Chorlton! Grin

topsmart · 16/03/2011 08:09

Ooh lucky you! Dunno if I can do the meet up yet, not sure about childcare. Hmph. But if not, then see you at ballet in two weeks!
You're so right about the beards. Think we need more second-hand knitwear and brogues too!
