maybe moving to Fareham area eek whats is it like to live there advice much needed.....

dh works at hms collingwood and is doing the whole weekend commute thing.However this is proving to be alot more expensive with price hikes etc and it seems unlikely he will be able to get a job in devon so i am thinking of relunctantly moving up. But looking at house prices it seems the only areas we maybe able to afford are Gosport as we are ftb but im not sure about the schools in this area.Which areas and schools would you recommend and are commutable to Fareham. What are the people like and whats it like for bringing children up? I love living in devon/cornwall and my ds goes to a good school so I want to be sure I can adjust.

Hi - I'm in an almost identical situation: been made redundant from my job in Devon and about to move to the Fareham area to take up a job on the Isle of Wight. I would appreciate any views on the best places to live in the area: quite like the village of Wickham, but kids going to start school in Stubbington and the 2 eldest (teenage girls) are shopaholics and would probably like to be based within striking distance of Fareham - which to my looks quite like an urban sprawl with very little that's pleasing to the eye. Any advice as to nice areas that aren't too far away from Stubbingham but would enable me to catch the hovercroft from Southsea every day. I've been told by Estate Agents not to go for Gosport.

Alverstoke is a nice area of Gosport.
Peel Common is ok and quite close to Stubbington. Or Stubbington itself is nice.
