Adventure Park at the National Stadium at Ta' Qali is good and have signs telling you the age appropriateness of all the equipment.
Playmobil is another good one, down at Hal Far, you have to be 6 to do the actual factory tour but DS likes it for the little outside play area.
DS likes the Armoury too but again that might be boring when you are 3 and not obsessed by knights.
Splash and Fun/Mediterraneo at Bahar ic-Caghaq
Museums - toy museum in Valletta (don't know what that is like), there is a very small shop in Naxxar just behind the church that is a bizarre little museum of childhood, there are lovely handmade dollshouses your DD might enjoy seeing - very tight for space though.
Popeye village we weren't impressed.

Don't actually live there yet so that is all I can suggest just now but HTH

monkeyfeet - not in Malta but what I would say is that July and August are intensely hot. I mean like an oven. So hot that frankly I would not go out travelling at all with two children that age during the middle 6 hours of the day.

I know when we were there some local schools ran holiday clubs and playgroups. If you have friends there ask them to check that out.

Agree with all of the above. The Beach Club in St Julians can be good.

Just about every town/village has a playground quite central - literally just off the road, eg in naxxar its just down from church a bit, in mdina its just outside the walls...

San Anton gardens in Balzan are nice for a stroll around and a run about for little children.

Paradise Bay for the beach/swim in the sea.

Oh and totally agree with beenbeta. We used to live in Malta when I was growing up - going outside was not an option for me for most of the summer unless early morning/early evening.

poodlehorse I used to live in Naxxar!

Reading this thread, all of the places and names I remember brings back memories.

silverfrog when were you there, I was there from 60 -66, a long time ago!

I went to two schools in Malta, Imtarfa and St Andrews

silverfrog · 23/06/2010 07:38

Ha! I used to live in naxxar too, in the early eighties though. We also lived in Balzan. I went to Stella Maris in B'kara.

We lived in Balzan before Naxxar. My father was at RAF Luqa

We kept our boats at Sliema and used to go to the beach club called the Villa Rosa, can't quite remember where, but know that at 5 I used to get off the bus on my own and walk half a mile over rough land past a Monastery to get to it.

I met a monk on the way once who wanted to hold my hand and take me down the hill, he terrified me, my parents said he was harmless and I was being daft!

I can't believe the amount of coca cola we used to drink as kids, we wore flip flops to school and never wore sun tan lotion!

silverfrog · 23/06/2010 18:48

We occasionally had sun tan lotion, but not often! My brothers went too scouts at sliema, and we too used to walk half a mile or so to the school bus, or be sent round to the shop etc from about the age of 4! Used to ne sent with a note and money - change to be spent on sweets.

We always drank Dr pepper, or Kinnies - not that's not something you ever see anywhere else!
