my closest friend is moving abroad soon. she has two kids, boy of 5 and girl of 8. any suggestions for a nice going away gift for them both, a keepsake or something to remind them of us/here. thanks.

I suppose it depends where they are moving to. When we left Thailand, dd was given a book of photographs of her with various friends. She treasures that.

I agree, my children liked the photo's they received. My DD (who was then 7) also liked receiving a forever friends bear and necklace.

Try and give the presents before their house is packed up... we struggled to fit all of our presents and cards in our already bulging suitcases!

they're moving to middle east. photos would be nice for the 8yr old, not so sure that the 5 yr old would appreciate it. thanks for the suggestions.

A long sleeved t.shirt with a photo printed onto it? Someone got my dd one of those, she wore it out.

A Bridgewater Pottery children's mug for each of them - it is made in England (a rare thing) and will last forever and can be used everyday.

we moved from the USA when my ds was six - his class got him a football and they all signed a panel iykwim.. He treasures it still almost ten years later ..

For the 5yo photo's laminated are great. My two received some from grandparents and they do get thrown around but appreciated in the same as looking through an album. Granparents did pictures of themselves and there house and animals, all very sweet and still treasured.

not long lasting but my boys (4 and 2 at the time) were excited by little travel packs that a friend gave them before we moved. they had colouring books in them, crayons, stickers! and they all came in a little carry pack! they loved them!

my dd (then 7) still has a teddy bear that her friend gave her - its got a t-shirt on it and the tshirt has a photo of the 2 of them together! just too cute!
