hi Just wondered if you have a young family (mine 2 and 4 yrs) whether you would live in Padong or Puxi or neither. The pros and cons would be welcome? thanks x

Hi, it depends really what your preferences are. Puxi is the part west of the river Pu and Pudong is east of the river. Puxi is basically the 'old' city of Shanghai - well not all is old. Pudong 15 years ago was a handful of new office buildings and fields. These days it is a huge build up area. Personally I prefer living in Puxi - however if you are part of a company who puts their employee's families in stepfordwife-like compounds then Pudong is the place to go. Many like minded mums with kids you will find either east or west of the river.

Puxi is better for walking and entertainment...lots of expats meet in the Puxi part of town. Pudong is good if you want a big place to live with lots of garden, but can be pretty isolating, and it's a long way to Puxi. I found that I met people much more easily in Puxi, but I hated Pudong...especially when my son was born...I was completely homebound and going anywhere was such an effort.
