i'm flying to michigan for a few days next week, and don't really know what to expect weatherwise... the internet weather sites seem to vary between 0 and 25 'C!

is there anyone in Michigan who can tell me whether I should take my shorts, my winter coats or both??

hi, i'm in MI, assume you're landing in detroit? are you staying in that area.?

hate to tell you this, but at this time of year it's VERY changeable - last week we had sunburn & sleety showers within a few days of each other.

so, shorts & winter coat prob a good idea, specially if you're heading north.

hope you read this on time, just found it.

thanks a lot kickassangel! at least i can be prepared now. i'm staying in ann arbour, not too sure where that is in relation to detroit (sorry, i'm a geography idiot!)

My husband is in Michigan tonight -close to Ann Arbor. He says it is fairly foggy and damp - very English weather. You will definitely need layers but apparently next week is going to be very pleasant ! I am over the other side of the lake and I would like to think that the worst of the winter weather is over. Have fun - are you visiting the university?

hi lilysmalls, thanks for the update, that's really helpful. Looks like I won't freeze to death then! Yes, I'm visiting the uni, do you know if there is anything else of note around there? might get a day or two for sightseeing!

ooh! ann arbor about 15 mins from detroit & i live 5 miles outside. it's lovely!! go on weather dot com for good info - use a zip code of 48148 to get the local weather.

do you have time for any 'fun' - i can tell you the best bars, places to go etc. i am also free nearly all day during the week if you want a tour guide. i don't go into the city much, but there are nice arty shops, micro brewery bars etc. the tourist info (which isn't open much, until june onwards) are good at replying to emails - if you send them a few things you're interested in, they will send back a list of suggestions. i also know where the malls are if you're into shopping - from expensive designer ones to out of town discount malls.

we moved here 18 months ago & love it - never want to go back.

some days it's about 28C atm, so cool at night, & warm in day.

thanks for the kind offer kickassangel , i don't think i get much time for tourism though, apart from a couple of organised things.

the weather info is really useful. i'm heading off in a couple of hours, just trying to stuff my warmer pjs into my case!
