Hi all you helpful gals in UAE. Finally dh got his job offer this week for a great position in Abu Dhabi.

Could you let me know whether the housing/utilities allowance is adequate or unrealistic? We are 2 adults and 2 kids - they have offered aed 11,800 per month, that's plus a good salary, health, flights, schools of course.

Any info greatly appreciated. thanks

inadequate I'd have thought .... that's 141,000 a year - you probably know that most leases you have to pay it upfront in a lump sum - you may be able to negotiate two cheques - dh just signed a lease on a 2 bed flat and is paying in two lots

You're going to need at least a 3-bed apartment or villa and I'd be surprised if you'd be able to get anything reasonably well-located for 141,000

sorry .. that's not what you wanted to hear is it, but dh has just gone through the palaver of getting a new place and it wasn't fun

just asked dh - and he said for a family home (and it won't be anything enormous) you'd need at least 200,000 - and you wouldn't want to be hanging around pondering whether or not to take something at that price

the property market is a bit easier than it was, but things are still pricey and in demand
