Have just googled prices for going back to NZ at Christmas time. Oh my God. I am worried now that I will never get to go home again.

Is there a secret time when it is lots cheaper?

No but I find if you dont mind hunting around you sometimes get "deals" come up intermittently.

Flightbookers often have pretty well priced seats, albeit often on slightly random airlines so you may have to suffer (e.g.) a 7 hour layover in Doha or something.

Also, avoid Friday and Sunday flights as they are always more expensive because of the business traffic.

That said, I'm hassling my parents to book their flights now(they're all coming to us this year)

Sorry- just to add, remember that the relative weakness of sterling is making international flights more expensive than they were. I just had a look at flights to NY and nearly fainted.

So, whether you book now or wait partially depends on what happens to sterling.

Thanks ArcticFox. Guess I'll have to keep looking and hoping. And maybe Christmas isn't going to be the viable option!
