Can anyone tell me what the going rate is in France (not in Paris, if that makes any difference...) for babysitting?
TIA

I pay 10 euros an hour in Paris [unhelpful emoticon]

I pay very different rates (in Paris) depending on whether I am using a teenager from my building in the early evening (to whom I give no responsibilities other than TV watching with DD and reading her a bedtime story) or an impoverished but capable overseas au pair who helps make supper, baths DD and keeps her fully entertained all evening. Between 6 and 10 euros an hour.

I guess you're not asking for my rates here! I charged MNers 6 an hour and everyone else 10 an hour, but that was in Paris and I was apparently a very good deal. Mostly it was just sitting and reading though so no actual work involved...

We were in Montpellier and paid a capable teenage babysitter 6 euros an hour (though kids were always in bed first).

Thanks for all your replies!
I'll get the baby off to sleep before I go, so she'll just(!) have to read DS1 a story and get him to settle.

Frakkin, what are your rates there? I don't suppose you'd be interested in the odd babysitting job in La Montagne/St Pierre in July/Aug? I'll be on holiday with the DC and it'd be nice to actually go out one or two evenings with old mates. Not v handy for where you live, though, I know...
Irrespective of babysitting issues, it'd be nice to meet up: the most southerly MN meetup ever?

We pay ours 30 euros for an evening regardless of the amount of time we are away although curfew is 4am!

She gets two DCs ready for bed, bit of play and stories. Sometimes she overseas a meal I've already prepared.

We're usually back by midnight so works out about 6 euros an hour but even cheaper on the rare occasions we manage to keep going longer!

I think it depends on the area to be honest like most things and if you want a reliable service with someone who has experience and childcare qualifications. I have struggled to find this in my area. local rates here are 15€ for up to two children an hour and 20€ for 3 to 4. That said there is no curfew
